The well's dry

a new pump was installed (there was water covering the old pump) but when it was turned on, the level dropped and we have no water.

I need to wash my hair. I have a ton of laundry and dishes to do. Not to mention showers and flushing toilets. Where do you get large quantities of water when you have none?

I know I can go to the laundromat. But the rest?

4. I just found out there was sediment in the new pump

it's been cleaned and they're going to try again. There's water in that well. He still has to go get filters and salt so I'm not sure if/when it will be functional again.

3. Dig a deeper well or connect to city water.

My folks live in the Shenandoah Valley where many wells went dry due to 7 year drought. Luckily my Dad's well was about 250 feet deeper.

7. They could be recommending it because they want you to get some help.

Are you sure the city water doesn't go that far? Don't make the assumption that it doesn't. It is in the water companies interests to gain as many customers as possible.

I asked this past spring and they had no intention of running a line down here. And if they could, the cost is more than drilling a new well.

...some water on hand to cover a couple days without.

A 30 gallon plastic drum will help with toilets and hygiene for a few days if you're careful.

If I know they will be shutting it off, in advance, I'll fill the tub after we're done showering, to use for the toilets.

Unless you get a surplus 350 gallon water trailer, take the laundry to the laundromat.
