Anybody here shoot an S&W 5906?
My CCW and current USPSA pistol is a single-stack S&W 3913 Ladysmith (3rd-gen), which I really like. It is absolutely reliable and amazingly accurate for a 3.5" barreled 9mm. But for USPSA competition and HD, it has two big drawbacks. For one, it trades away capacity for a very slim, concealable profile (it holds only 8+1), and secondly the aluminum frame is starting to wear under the mag catch from all the magazine changes (I've been shooting this pistol for close to 15 years now).

So I've been kicking around the idea of picking up a full-sized 9mm to supplement the 3913. My wife shoots a Glock, and I really like the G17, except I strongly prefer DA/SA and a manual safety to DAO. I toyed with the idea of a Springfield XD, but the manual safety is only available on the .45 ACP model. And the S&W M&P 9mm (which you can get in DA/SA with a manual safety) would seem to fit the bill perfectly, but I can't justify sinking $700+ into a handgun with my son's medical bills and whatnot.

But today, it just dawned on me that (1) I really like 3rd-gen S&W's, and (2) S&W made a 3rd-gen full-size DA/SA 9mm, the 5906. It's DA/SA with a manual safety, capacity is 15+1 or 17+1 depending on magazine choice, and the manual of arms is exactly the same as the gun I currently shoot. Duh!! And CDNN is currently listing used LEO trade-in 5906's for $299, which I can probably swing if I sell my Polish M44.

I think I'm going to swing by my local dealer tomorrow and see what the out-the-door cost would be on one of those 5906's, and how much I could get for the M44, to see if it's feasible...

1. Sometimes you can get these used from PD's, but if for match use,
you probably want new.

Although . . . now that I think about it, I read somewhere that rifles are actually more accurate after they've had several hundred rounds put through them.
