I wanna say two things - 1) Good luck to all the hunters tomorrow!!!
and 2) If you think hunting is "wrong", then sod off. This thread isn't for you.

Good luck and best hunting to the millions of men and women who will be off hunting tomorrow, tracking the elusive deer! May you all bring home a true trophy, and may the hunt and the meat bring you nourishment for soul as well as body.

I wish I were joining you this year. But as we say at Passover, "Next year - in Jerusalem!"

(Which doesn't mean I'm planning on deer hunting in Jerusalem next year; it's metaphorical).

All my hopes to you who will be hunting!

1. speaking of hunting
not that I think its cool or anything, but this post isn't about that. I was watching something this morning, or yesterday morning, I forgot which.

It was the Today show, and they had someone on whose set up a computer-based hunting site, where people can hunt wild game on his own ranch from their computers via remote control weapons.

Just wondering if anyone saw the story and what their thoughts were.

2. We just got a deer! We just got a deer!!!!
I'm so excited. We've had four years of constant deer meat and it wasn't looking good for this year. Everyone's invited to the Grumpy's for roundsteak!! That is whoever likes it! :toast:

5. CONGRAULATIONSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHEN DID DEER HUNTING START IN MICHIGAN?!?!?! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gotta turn that damn thing off. I guess being a WI native, I always think of deer hunting as starting the week before thanksgiving, but I'm sure other states are all different. I didn't even consider that other starts might not be starting tomorrow.

I'm glad you got a deer! My aunt just gave me some venison sausage from my uncle's deer - either from last year, or maybe one he mailed bow hunting this year (which, you know, opens many weeks before rifle season in WI).

Enjoy the meat! I'm hoping a relative this year will give me some meat.... :-)

7. Last Weekend! And I didn't even become a "widow" this year for it.
A buddy of MrG's from work hunts but his family doesn't eat the meat. So he gives it to us. And I have him over for venison jambalaya and ROUND STEAK!!!! a couple times a year. It works out best of both worlds. Although MrG plans on going, it's hard for him to get time off. If you're ever in MI, look us up. Side note: being, from WI, it took a while for me to get used to the earlier hunting start. :hi:

12. Woo hoo!!!
Nice of the guy to do the hunting for you. Wish I had someone who did that! BUT THEN I'D NEED TO BUY A FREEZER!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW!!!!!!!!!

And I just don't have room for a freezer. One of the reasons I decided not to go hunting this year.

And if I ever am back in MI, I shall indeed look you up. Though, as you know, I have an awfully bad taste in my mouth about MI and have no desire ever to step foot in that state again.

But to see GRUMPYGRUMPYGRUMPY, maybe I could!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. Just make sure you kill the poor beasts and don't just injure them
and let them go away to die in agony.
And don't shoot each other.

You may have guessed I don't like hunting, and I'm not going to sod off, as you so graciously put it.

21. Whether you like hunting or not
your advice is appropriate and timely.
Safety is paramount. My idea on shots is don't shoot unless you're sure of a clean kill.

Not real fond of your last comment, but I can accept your position.

Not to speak for Rabrrrr (are there enough r's there), but so long a non-hunters are civil about our sport and don't attack, they can post all they want down here IMO.

6. I would love some fresh venison
My dad used to get a deer every year. I don't think anyone even hunts around here - there's so many bloody deer, they're a nuisance. Unfortunately, my landlord who lives right next door would no doubt notice if I bagged one and had it hanging outside my living room window. ~sigh~

10. Too late! And a deer is saved from starvation, and a family is saved
from a horrific fatal car accident.

11. My dad, my brother, and my best friend are all "in camp"
their own seperate places throughout the Great White North. I'm sure the whiskey is flowing, the bullshit is nuclear, and the poker is cut throat.

God, I miss back home this time of year. :(

13. My hubby is going "hunting" this weekend
He is too tender-hearted to hunt, but he likes to go to deer camp with his friends. He won't even accompany them when they physically go hunting. He just hangs out at camp and reads a book. They didn't get a deer last year and blamed my dh's bad vibes, but they invited him this year anyway. LOL

we used to have camp hangers-on like that too, just showed up for the cards and fun. In fact I spent 13 years in camp and never even shot at a deer.

Its a guy thing

15. And they're off!!
At least in WI, the hunt started a few minutes ago.

In MI, it's been going on for a week.

Any other states starting today? Any that have started already? When does NY deer hunting begin?

I never knew what turkey was supposed to taste like until the family started hunting wild turkeys.

WOW!

The difference between real turkey and supermarket turkey is incredible.
