FN 5.7x28 Question

Can a 1911 be chambered for this round, or is the overall length too much?

I've never heard of this cartridge. Seems kind of LOOONG. Is the 5.7 the same as a 22cal?

I'm always interested in obscure cartridges.

I've often wondered, why you couldn't neck down the 10MM and make a 357SIG Magnum. It would work on a 1911 frame have a longer neck length ( 1/8 inch is just to short ) and more powder capacity. It should make one hell of an auto round.

I'm surprised that no one has tried it yet.

The specs I've seen show it at 1.60, that would be to long for a standard 1911 frame.

He said you would be money ahead to buy the FN pistol chambered for this "Eurotrash" cartridge. He thought the the FN sold for around $600 and you would spend much more than that to convert a 1911.

Not to crazy about that pistol. sure do like 1911's. Case too long anyway. I did Contact RCBS about that 357/10mm idea, sounds like a simple 3 die set. Now to come up with some loading data, 357 Automag and 357/44 Bains and Davis are as close as i can get.
Any ideas?

FNs P-90 PDW. The PDW was a new concept for arming the 2/3s of a nations military that usually doesn't need a rifle but needs something better than a pistol in case the rear areas get overrun. Basically they felt that the 9mm was too old and limiting to work with so the designed the 5.7. The P-90 is basically a bull-pup compact submachine gun and FN has designed a pistol to go with it. This forced them to shorten the round slightly. It is considered to be an excellent round for penetrating body armor and helmets. It is a 23 grain bullet with the MV 2790 fps and ME of 400 lbs. No nation has accepted it for service yet outside of some issues to various special forces units and counter terrorists squads.

50 to 125 yard shots are the norm here.
