As you guys know, I am a moderate on this issue, and really am not a big fan of "the election was stolen", especially since I just don't see the evidence to back up such an extraordinary claim. And the voter suppression stuff sounds like whining to me -- I realize there are excellent arguments for this, but it still comes across like the Dems playing victims, and I just don't like it one bit. But . . . . a full frontal assault on the Diebold machines may be a winning strategy.
I think Americans can only keep one thought in their head, especially when they're only half paying attention. I think the Democrats should make it their goal to BAN Diebold (and the other touchscreen machines, too) in every state, because they are UNRELIABLE, prone to errors, and hackable. All we have to do is talk about it from a technological POV -- these machines are just designed POORLY and have NO PLACE in our electoral process. Then the Feds will have to come in, and once again, bail out the local precincts, and convert everyone over to paper optical scanners, which every voting study I have seen have called the best method to vote -- you have the scanners for ease but a verifiable paper backup when things go wrong or are extremely close.
Just the machines -- that's ALL we should rally on. The other stuff will not win any votes, I tell you (they should be fought in the background). But Middle Class people will perk up if they discover that the machines they are voting on are HIGHLY UNRELIABLE and CANNOT be trusted. We need to scare the bejesus out of Republicans with this one, that DEMOCRATS could also hack them, too. I see that as the only way to move this issue forward.
Edited to add: this is not a criticism of Kerry's e-mail which had to do specifically with Kenneth Blackwell. That makes sense to bring it up, but nationally, we should launch a full assault on the machines.
