DVD about Kerry's campaign?
a couple of months ago I was at Kmart and seen a dvd about the democratic presidential campaign. Behind the scenes stuff etc... I think it was called something like Staffers? Has anyone seen it? Is it any good? I didn't have extra money on me that day but thought about it the other day and wondered if they still are selling it?

1. That was a show that ran on cable
I saw that on the Discovery Times channel (Discover Channel partnered with the New York Times.) It was pretty good. (They showed Marvin a lot when they showed Kerry. :D

You can probably cross-reference this from the Discover Channel web site. They should have more info. It originally played back in the spring and the first few eps dealt with the primaries.

There was another film about the primaries and some general stuff that ran on HBO last fall. "Confessions of a Political Tourist." The filmaker was Nancy Pelosi's daughter. She had increbile access to the White House and the press planes and such of the Dems in the primary.

She had a great section in there were she finally gets a one-on-one interview with Kerry. He steals her camera and goes back into the press section and starts filming. I really liked that. Nancy Pelosi's daughter is a brat and kinda spoiled, but the film was amusing. The Kerry bits were great.

2. Do you get that channel??

I wanted so much to see that show, but it's not on our lineup.

I hear Marvin was the big star.

I taped "Diary of a Political Tourist" when it was on HBO. I really found Alexandra Pelosi obnoxious and impertinent (ooh - how Victorian!!), but there were some great bits in that film. I loved the part where Kerry took her camera and started filming her.

Also the White House parties were unbelievable. That was the film that captured that fatcat repuke Peter King saying in this exchange:

"It's already over. The Election's over. We Won."

When Pelosi asks, "How do you know that?" King replies, "It's all over but the counting. And we'll take care of the counting."

3. Here is the web site
This is for the series:
http://times.discovery.com/fansites/staffers/staffers.html

This is for Marvin:
http://times.discovery.com/fansites/staffers/bios.html

That was a great series. I think I want a copy. Marvin was funny. He interned for Kerry when he was in his late 20's. Damn, you always think of interns as being high school or college kids. I just love that whole story. And he's 6'8"? Wow.

What a minute? Marvin has a fansite? Damn, I have to look at this. (I do not have any LLL feelings for MArvin. His job is just fascinating. His whole meeting with Kerry and getting hired and staff resume is fascinating and just great. I love that whole human aspect of who works on campaigns and how they got there. Cheif of Stuff LOL! Wonder if that is what goes on the IRS form under occupation.)

5. Alexandra, that was her name
She is a brat! That was awful when she rubbed it into Gov. Dean that his status had changed and he was using the puddle jumper plane after his primary fortunes turned sour. Eowwwh. Who does that?

Yeah, I get that channel. I have Dish Network. (And a cable modem and satellite radio on Sirius. I think I am wired. And I work at a news company. Info junkie anyone?)

Yeah, those White House bar-b-ques were awful. Those people are just reprehensible. They will get theirs, I swear.

4. It is called "Staffers '04"
It is 132 min. long. Has 6 segments on it. It has some behind the scenes stuff from Clark, Dean, Lieberman, Kucinich in the first and second segment. Some of Kerry in the second segment. The other four segments is all Kerry. Shows people getting in shouting matches, shows the surprising victories and crushing defeats. Shows chaos from the Iowa caucuses and the drama of super Tuesday. It is a very good DVD that is well worth the money and will be a collector's item.

Also the DVD "Brother In Arms" is another great one well worth the money. You can order it from Amazon.com I have it also and recommend it to and Kerry supporter or fan. It has Max Cleland, John Kerry, his crew mates, David Thorne (Kerry's ex brother-in-law), ect. It has interviews, photographs and archival footage of the war. It is very powerful and emotional. I also recommend it to all Kerry supporters and fans. And another nice collectors item for nuts like me that collect anything Kerry!

7. I will have to hie myself down to Suncoast and get a copy
I love that insider stuff. It's so interesting to see how things work, how personalities do and don't mesh and such. Thanks!

Also, I have Going Upriver, but not Brothers in Arms. Nice to get a good recommendation. The Barnes & Noble near where I work has a copy. I think I will toddle on in and pick it up.

If not get it. I have it, Going Upriver, and Brothers In Arms. I'm a Kerry nut LOL. I collect anything I can get Kerry.

Also a good book to get is called "Star-Spangled Mirror" by John's dad Richard Kerry. It is the only book he ever wrote. But a good one.

18. I saw it in the video store, but
I didn't buy it. I wanted to know if it duplicated what was in Going Upriver. Guess not. If it has more of that interaction among that group of Vets and among all the Vietnam guys, I'm interested. That stuff is so fascinating. It was nice to see the gang again last summer. They are aging, of course, but aren't we all.

I have seen these guys at various times on the news here for various campaign reasons over the years. Gawd, I even know some of their names. Funny, but I care about how they are doing. POrobably part of my feelings for Vets in general. They go through so much, I hope they have good lives.
