A question for the Mass gang -
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 12:51 AM by pirhana
Please interpret:

The repugs are saying he ran a prostitute house for gays or something insane like that.

Something tells me this is not quite the entire story.

1. Who? Barney Frank?
Like everything else, they twisted the facts of the story. They take the truth and interpret it.

There was a scandal.

A friend who lived with Frank was running a prostitution ring out of the Congressman's apartment when he wasn't home. Frank had found out about the activities and booted the guy out, but the House reprimanded Frank anyway. He didn't resign and easily won reelection.

4. The Young Turks
were all over this this morning.

Fair and balanced. If there's no dem sex scandal, they just have to balance it another way, you know.

3. Here's what Wikipedia says about it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barney_Frank

-snip-

In 1990, the House voted to reprimand Frank when it was revealed that Steve Gobie, a male prostitute that Rep. Frank had befriended after hiring him through a personal advertisement, had conducted a prostitution ring from Frank's apartment when he was not at home. Frank had dismissed Gobie earlier that year after learning of Gobie's activities.

The Boston Globe, among others, called on Frank to resign, but he refused. The House Ethics Committee recommended Frank be reprimanded because he "reflected discredit upon the House" by using his congressional office to fix 33 of Gobie's parking tickets. Attempts to expel or censure Frank failed; instead the House voted 408-18 to reprimand him. This condemnation was not reflected in Frank's district, where he won re-election in 1990 with 66 percent of the vote, and has won by larger margins ever since.

5. Republicans sensationalizing scandals
Just about any time you see a rather mundane Dem scandal blown out of proportion, look at the timeframe and what was going on on the Rep side. This stuff was really heating up when Reagan was giving a videotaped deposition for the Poindexter trial, which was also going on that year.
