Also looking for Hotline piece where reporter had heard joke before
It was posted at DU last week, but I can't find it again.

1. I'm looking for that too
I am SURE JK had used the joke before - because when this stuff first started, I didn't think it was a big deal, because I remembered hearing that riff and it was obviously about Bush. (And at that point I hadn't listened to or watched the actual Pasadena speech)

It would be helpful if we could locate the speeches where JK used this before...

2. The Hotline buzz piece should be enough - the reporter SAID he heard it before.
and that other reporters had to.

For some reason, I can't find it now thru the google.

4. Here

But it's a parenthetical remark in a piece that otherwise isn't so good, imo. Still, it's important.

You can access a sequence of posts of the relevant period with this link:

Here's a direct link to a post about Matthew Dowd and Dick Armey saying JK wasn't insulting the troops:

6. Thanks all. Here's the excerpt I was looking for.

Do Republicans really believe that Kerry wasn't talking about Pres. Bush? (We believe that Kerry was referring to Bush because he's used a similar formulation in our presence before and quite clearly meant to call Bush a dummy.)
