1. My wingnut neighbor loves him, and wants him for president.
I said he had a LOT of baggage. She responded, "well, nobody's perfect". Considering how she took her CHILDREN to see the impeachment hearings of Bill Clinton (not exactly a family friendly discussion) she was so morally outraged by BC's "sin", she's got to be either the most ignorant person or just damned hypocritical. Guiliani is a very immoral man, to say the least.

2. Which Rudy does your wingnut neighbor love?
Edited on Sat Nov-18-06 10:18 PM by Island Blue
Is it post-9/11 "hero" Rudy, or the cross-dressing, mistress-keeping, ethically challenged Rudy?

4. Begala and abortion
Did they all just miss that SD voted to overturn the abortion ban?? And yet they're all supposedly going with the complete and total ban on abortion in their campaigns. That doesn't even make sense.

But to tell the truth, what other Republican would you want in the White House? I can't think of any except Olympia Snowe. Well Chafee, but that'd never happen.

5. If the Republicans went back to their traditional roots of being
a truly conservative party in a classical way (conserve the status quo, put the brakes on foreign adventures, balance the books, even conservation for the environment, etc.), then I would consider them again. After all, Teresa Heinz used to be a Republican. But look at what happened to them in the Northeast -- it's going to nearly all Democratic in the Congress, because even Republicans in the North have come to realize that the South has taken over their party. I do come from an Independent background, and it is indeed sad, that I can't even consider them anymore -- for me, that means voting in Democratic primaries, and being super tough on Democrats to do the right thing. The usual method, of threatening to vote for the other side, doesn't work for me anymore -- I'm not going to vote for the Taliban (and believe me, around here, the GOPers are the Taliban who if they had their way would take away all of my rights as a woman in an instant).

There actually are a few members of the GOP in the Senate who may find their voice against the madness, now that the Dems have taken over -- Spector, Warner, Lugar -- we'll see, but these guys are from the old party, but who have unfortunately "adapted" to the new madness. Will they now engage for a fight for the soul of the Republican party? Only time will tell.
