Note that the trend shows that Kerry and Edwards have been on a steady decline.

Also, Clinton beats Gore 53% to 36%. She also beat Obama 52% to 30%.

And the Repubs win:

On edit: All the Democrats have been on a steady decline. The increase is in the Unsure column.

1. Hillary has peaked
She has not and cannot break through her ceiling.

I am very interested in the Gore supporters and the unsure 20%, myself. Additionally, Hillary's support is not hardcore. It'll turn around.

2. Like others have said it mostly reflects the media

It does show Kerry was hurt by the joke, probably more because some people bought the idea that he was gaffe prone and jeopordized the 2006 election - even though all the polls at the end showed a strong uo turn. (In fact hearing "stuck in Iraq" while damaging to Kerry - rang true with regards to the Republicans who WERE on the ballot.)

As it was on Dec 5 - 6, half of the calling was before the ISG release. So it was after much of Kerry's media blitz. I think Beachmom was right that it will take time and Senate actions as well excellent TV appearances.

The scarier results are the next set - asking people to choose between Hillary and Gore only and Hillary and Obama only. Hillary gets slightly above 50% with each. That is the thing that NEEDS to change - and will likely require bad Hillary or Bill media. (It should be noted that BC's Fox tantrum appears to have neither helped or hurt.) It may also shift as the media gets bored and suggests it is still a race.

Edwards seems to change between polls - this is weird. I wonder if it means that much of his support is weak. It will be interesting to watch.

4. I see JK doing the right thing politically right now.
He waited about a month for the joke thing to cool down, and then began a media blitz, to put himself out there and replace the joke in people's minds with evidence that he's a sound and sober expert on Iraq and other things. But it's not only for politics, it's for building a better country and advancing the Dem agenda. So it's win-win-win. That has usually been his response to a difficult time politically: don't sit around and whine and make excuses, just pitch in harder and show people what you're worth.

HILL WHACKS BARACK: POLL

December 8, 2006 -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton trounces potential rival Sen. Barack Obama nearly two to one in the multi-candidate Democratic field, two polls released yesterday show.

Clinton takes 33 percent of the vote to Obama's 12 percent, according to a Fox News poll. That showing is identical to the numbers in a Marist College Institute poll that show Clinton leading Obama 33 to 12 percent.

The Fox poll of registered voters lists a field of 10 candidates, with former Vice President Al Gore coming in third with 11 percent, followed by ex-Sen. John Edwards at 6 percent. Some 20 percent are undecided.

In the Marist numbers, which include Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, John Edwards snares 14 percent, followed by Gore at 13 percent and then Obama. Sixteen percent are unsure.

The other candidates - including Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack, the only Democrat who's openly thrown his hat in the ring - barely register.
