Troop Training Problem
I know some of you have military in your families, or know military people. There's an article in this thread about advanced training being cancelled for troops from Ft. Lewis. I'm gathering these troops might be some who have already gone and are not getting the routine retraining; and recruits out of MOS who haven't gotten the advanced training at all. If correct, this is seriously bad news. I've been emailing the actual article around to a few people, I think it's important enough to get some more eyes on it and get to the bottom of it. Anybody knows more, please chime in.

1. National Training Center at Ft. Irwin, CA
is where complex units go to train as a unit. The article says

Maj. Jim Brown, the brigade’s executive officer, acknowledged Fort Irwin offers “a great benefit” to units getting ready to deploy.

But he said officials believe they can replicate the conditions at Fort Lewis and clear up the brigade’s last maintenance and training issues here.

I'd say he's just trying to cover for a lame-ass decision.

That's like saying instead of your kid using the chemistry lab at high school, he will have to experiment with boiling water and baking soda at home, but he will still be able to meet all the learning objectives.

Maybe I am being too harsh, because I know nothing about "Stryker brigades", but the National Training Center exists for a reason.

2. I think it's criminal
I think it's a little more than cya. Bush and Gates are responsible for this, the Major is just following orders. There's no reson for this, the 'surge' can wait until troops are trained. It's just like sending them in without their armour. They have no regard for the troops at all.

3. I wanted to respond to this,
but truly have no words. I wish we could say it was unbelievable, but it's of a piece with everything else he's done. He is a sociopath. Not to blogwhore, but http://toughenough.org/2007/01/we-have-sociopath-as-president.html

He's accumulated a long long list of sins, any one of which would ensure that he will spend all eternity in hell, but his abuse of the trust of the young people who enlisted in the military is at the very top.

4. Yes he's a sociopath
Some of us have been writing about that for years. In any event, I wish some of the people who actually have military connections would pay attention to this. It's about the most important thing we could be doing right now.
