Swift boating- this term is being used now to frequently explain political attacks
on a candidate. I don't know whether I like them using the term so loosely. I really think this term belongs to Kerry. Actually he was the only one really swift boated.
What do you think?

I saw the Kerry response to a vet on a DKos thread where he spoke of his dislike of the term because, in spite of everything, he respected that the boats took them through those bad times. So, I aan see that for him and the good swift boat people, it steals something that means something for them.

If it is to have a generalized meaning, I think people need to insist that it doesn't mean such political attacks, but the use of blatant lies , not just nasty political attacks. (I had this argument over a half year ago with our leading adversary - when she used it to refer to something like charges that Clinton was a womanizer. ) If that happens the meaning of the term is avindication of Kerry.

2. As long as it means dishonest attacks
Kerry was the only one truely swift boated, but the important thing is that the conventional wisdom becomes the fact that the attacks on Kerry were untrue. If swift boated comes to mean untrue attacks (as opposed to any attacks) then it is a good thing.

3. OK, I think
I think it's ok - the more the term comes to mean that someone is attacked with lies, perhaps the more people will realize that that's what happened to Senator Kerry.

4. It started with Blow-jobbing, then impeaching then Goring. They act as if it never
happened before and the swifts were an aberration.
