Kerry's new book hails everyday people saving the environment

By Andrew Miga, Associated Press Writer | March 10, 2007

WASHINGTON --Sen. John Kerry was dealt a bitter loss in 2004, but he also found inspiration for a new book during the long, grueling presidential campaign.

In town after town, he was deeply moved by the energy and enthusiasm he discovered among everyday citizens who were fighting to save the environment, Kerry said.

"There's real urgency to getting things done," said a relaxed Kerry, who snacked on cookies during a recent interview with The Associated Press in his Senate office. "It's not a Republican-Democrat kind of thing. ... We were inspired by that."

More than two years after his campaign, Kerry celebrates ordinary people who have created innovative solutions to pressing environmental problems in a book co-authored with his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry. The book is due out later this month.
...

Pretty good article globally, though I am not really sure why they needed to ask question to a Republican.

2. The Massachusetts Republican is pretty lame

It was prescient of Kerry to be involved in environmental issues since the 1970s to rehabilitate his image in 2008. Not to mention that gaining the Democratic nomination for President and nearly winning is not a shameful action he needs rehabilitation from.

This is a nice article and from the explanation of the book, it sounds very positive and good. The two sements on Johnkerry.com (one on the home page, one as a blog post) are great. It really puts action to some of Kerry's comments on activism.

5. I also thought the GOP quote was lame
and also inaccurate. Sigh.

3. I would like to think that the GOP quote was because they "had to"
for balance, you know...but the quote is so lame, that it kind of makes the GOPer look like an idiot.

Given that the article mentions both Kerrys long history of environmental work, the GOP quote should come across as pretty dumb to most intelligent readers. (Oh wait....)

4. I agree
Anything that benigning characterizes Kerry as snacking on cookies in the beginning of the article has to be a nice piece. (but were they chocolate chips??)

It also has some nice descriptions of him meeting with people while traveling in 2004 and later. Without saying it, this is a John Kerry, who connected and connected well with many people. It's also a very likable Kerry.

Stumping for the environment

What is it about the environment that failed presidential candidates find so attractive? Al Gore went green with his Oscar-winning "An Inconvenient Truth," and now John Kerry's joined the cause with "This Moment on Earth," a book co-written by his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry. Blurbed by -- you guessed it -- Gore, the book spotlights a new generation of "environmental pioneers" who're fighting to save the planet. Since he isn't on the campaign trail this time around, Kerry is doing a book tour, including interviews this month with Don Imus, Jon Stewart, and George Stephanopoulos, and an appearance in the People's Republic of Cambridge April 21.

The long-awaited return Daily Show appearance!!!!

7. Very cool!
I hope THK will join him during those appearances. I know she's going to be on Imus with him, but I'd also love to see her go toe-to-toe with Jon Stewart.

8. I was thinking the
exact same thing - I'd love to see her take on Jon Stewart - and would bet anything on her ability to completely charm him.
