Bill Shaheen Will Back Hillary Clinton

Manchester – Prominent Democratic attorney Bill Shaheen tomorrow will be named a co-chair of Hillary Clinton’s national and state Presidential campaign.

“I’ve looked at all the candidates and Hillary is just one of these people that when someone knocks her down, she comes back up stronger,” Shaheen told UnionLeader.com. He called the New York senator “a good and honest person, intelligent, and she can get things done.”

The Shaheen endorsement will be formally unveiled at a news conference at the Merrimack Restaurant in Manchester.

Bill Shaheen was the state campaign chairman for Democratic nominee John Kerry in 2004, while his wife, the former governor was a national Kerry co-chair. Jeanne Shaheen is now director of the Institute for Politics at the John F. Kennedy School of Government and is expected to remain neutral in the primary race.

Bill Shaheen was also a chairman of Al Gore’s Presidential campaign in 2000, but his political activism dates back three decades. He co-chaired the successful 1976 New Hampshire Primary campaign for Jimmy Carter and a year later, President Carter appointed him as U.S. Attorney for New Hampshire.

3. I'm going to have to. It get's worse. Here's an e-mail I got today.
Dear Ann,

Tomorrow, I am going to the Merrimack Restaurant in downtown Manchester to announce my support for Senator Hillary Clinton for president. And as her campaign co-chair, I will work day in and day out to help her become the next president of the United States.

I am supporting Hillary because I trust her, because she's honest and intelligent. She has the experience, wisdom, and courage we desperately need in our next president. She has faced the toughest tests time and time again, and she has always remained true to herself, emerging stronger and more prepared to handle the challenges that come her way.

Hillary will rebuild America's reputation in the world, solve our healthcare crisis, get our schools back on track, and put middle-class families first again.

We are a nation at war. If the current administration stays the course, we'll still be at war when the next president takes office. While all of the Democratic candidates have spoken out against the war in Iraq, Hillary is the only candidate in this race with the experience and knowledge to get us out of Iraq and bring our troops home.

I am both honored and humbled that Hillary asked me to serve as her co-chair. I don't know about you, but I am ready to take our country back.

And Hillary and I need your help. If you are already supporting Senator Clinton, it is my privilege to join you. If you have not already signed up with us, please join our team. Visit (HRC site) to receive updates and learn about how you can become involved in our campaign.

Together we can make Hillary Clinton the next president of the United States.

Let's get to work!

Thank you,
Bill Shaheen

This is just too much. I'm so disgusted, I can barely type. I've got to collect my thoughts. This is the worst betrayal in a long time. This was a STRONG Kerry supporter. How could he support the backstabbing shrew?

4. it's a big mystery to me, too -- and a betrayal, indeed
It's terrible to say , but I keep wondering what sort of pressure, monetary and otherwise, is being applied behind the scenes

5. Yuck!
How can he support her? IMO, he sees the writing on the wall, so to speak. This is like having eaten sweet cream in the past and now settling for the sour cream instead.

6. I'd bet this took MUCH WRANGLING by Bill - promising to do better by Dems
than he did before.

This also makes me think Shaheen doesn't see Clark entering the race, because he wouldn't have made that statement about experience.
