2. Yeah!
That ambassadorship to Legoland is still open, far as I know.

I am happy about this. Mr. Fox was not qualified for the position he was nominated for and he showed that at the hearing. And he never disavowed his contribution to SBVT, even though he claimed to be horrified by the nasty nature of politics.

Think of the children, Tay :(
But isn't it awesome that Fox caved under pressure? For once he did the proper thing.

9. Bob Geiger:

Senator and 2008 presidential candidate Chris Dodd (D-CT) deserves a lot of credit for being the only Senator to come forward and publicly announce in advance that he intended to vote against Fox.

I wholeheartedly agree.

14. Even here they distort the truth
Fox called Kerry a hero in a :puke: patronizing statement lecturing Senator Kerry that "you are a hero, they can't take that away from you." before Kerry asked about his contribution. This was likely the moment that Bob Geiger refered to fantasizing about the Senator punching him in the face.

She reported:
"Kerry grilled Fox about the Swift Boat contribution during the Feb. 27 hearing, asking him why he gave money to a group that was "smearing and spreading lies" and had been condemned by members of both political parties.

Fox replied that he considers Kerry a hero. But he refused to call the contribution a mistake."

Which gives him far too much credit.

I did not write it or even know the person who did.

But I like it.

Tim Tageris, who works for Sen. Dodd, has a post over there on the Dodd e-mail. We could show Tim some love.

17. JK's response:
Kerry on White House Withdrawal of Sam Fox Nomination

Washington D.C. – Today Senator Kerry made the following statement on the White House decision to withdraw the nomination of Sam Fox for ambassador of Belgium:

“Sam Fox had every opportunity to disavow the politics of personal destruction and to embrace the truth. He chose not to. The White House made the right decision to withdraw the nomination. I hope this signals a new day in political discourse.”

...there is still some justice in this crazy world we are living in. I plan to take this as a sign that the huge aircraft carrier that is the United States of America is finally turning itself around (with a lot of help from people like JK and THK and those here) and is changing course to once again become "America' again. LET AMERICA BE AMERICA AGAIN.:patriot:

26. TPM Muckracker has some good reactions:
I hope it's okay to paste some here for your amusement:

"This story is an excellent case in point: Most of the Bush nominees for ANY POST ARE NOT QUALIFIED, period."

"The sheer temerity of this appointment just shows the lunacy of this administration.

Kerry is on the fricken committee which has to approve his nomination, and you don't think the fact he funded the group that destroyed Kerry will affect anyone's view of him?

The sycophancy of the Bush advisors to tell him this was a good idea must be sickening.

Good riddance. "

"aw, the cronies don't just walk through the Senate anymore. poor things."

"Sam_Fox2007: OMG!!1 You mean Ima have to go up to teh Hillz and justifyy my skillz and qualific8tionz for teh appointment?!!!11one? WTF???1!!!1one?"

"2004:
Those were the days, my friend,

We thought they'd never end...

We'd smear and lie

Forever and a day.

We'd play the games we choose

We'd fight and never lose...

Those were the days, oh yes

Those were the days....

Sounds like a dirge now, don't ya think?
Karma: the gift that keeps on giving."

"The last straw for me was when he praised Kerry's service during the hearing and then said he was not aware what his donation would be used for. That may have been true, but it hardly qualifies him to be an Ambassador. I wrote Cardin, my Senator, and encouraged others to do likewise. This need not be a partisan issue--it has more to do with basic decency which should be the sine qua non of politics. Thanks to those who brought this to light."

"Watching Kerry questioning Fox was a rare treat.
Especially when Kerry, asked how it could be that Fox, a "businessman," would spring for 50K and have no idea where it was going or what it would be used for."

28. "Another Thing to be Proud of As a Democrat"

Another Thing to be Proud of As a Democrat

Watching Kerry barbecue Sam Fox...how do you think Rumsfeld or Cheney would have handled that kind of moment?

Or anyone named Bush?

One can't imagine how John Kerry must feel. To have worked so hard and lost so much. And to have lost it to an imbecile and his band of thieving, whoring liars.

Watching Kerry on TV today with that boob Fox.

Another thing to be proud of as a Democrat.

I wish!

32. has anyone brought up the point that Sam Fox was mostly likely nominated
in the first place BECAUSE he contributed to the swift boat liars ? never mind that he has no qualifications and is clueless about Belgium, he contributed to the liars and that's why they nominated him.

34. He was a political nominee
and the main reason was his huge contributions to Bush, including this.

It is beyond sickening seeing any articles implying that it was just political vengence that this man, whose only real credential was giving lots of money to the Republicans, was denied an ambassadorship. Real balance here - meanwhile - the media let the SBVT lie about Kerry in the first place, then attacked him as not fighting back, now implying he was vindictive which he wasn't.
