{and I's got to hear him today on the radio after the Springfield event. He was saying pretty much the same thing).

Senator Kerry in Western Mass, Supports Barack Obama

Senator John Kerry visited American International College on Friday and spoke openly about his support of Barack Obama for President, overlooking former running mate John Edwards with his endorsement.

"It's a different time, there are different needs and demands of the nation," says Senator Kerry.

New demands Senator Kerry says need to be handled by a new leader.

"I think that he has the best opportunity to be able to unite Americans with a clean slate," says Kerry.

...
"The fact is that the first candidate in this race to center his candidacy on this issue was Barack Obama," says Kerry. "And it is everyone else who is following Barack Obama. That's why I believe he is a leader."

Senator Kerry says he has worked closely with all the candidates and is ready to put his full effort behind whoever wins the Democratic nomination.

1. And, apparently, young people like him, you know.

(a very nice article altogether from the AIC event at Springfield). The Republican has always had a very positive coverage of Kerry.

In his speech, he faulted the Bush administration for poor leadership on international issues, health care, and global climate change. He stressed the established role of students in bringing about social progress.

"You can make a difference, and we need you, now more than ever," he said.

Kerry was vigorously applauded.

"He was an amazing speaker, very passionate about what he said," said Monica M. Orefice, 17, a senior at the city's Sabis International Charter School.

"I think it was definitely very inspiring," agreed Kara M. Breen, 17, also a Sabis senior.

2. In regard to young people liking JK ...
I was listening to Stephanie Miller for a while yesterday (until the guest mook started making idiotic comments about JK) and a woman who had been at the Obama/Charleston event called in. She said that when the young people in the audience learned that JK was going to be introducing Obama they were very excited and that his speech was very well received by the crowd and that he received lots of applause. She also said that she got a chance to shake both JK and Obama's hands, and that she arrived at the event an Edwards fan, but is now leaning Obama. She said she told JK that she wanted him as VP. Okay, so that's not going to happen.

Anyway, it was a good account from someone on the ground of how the mostly college age audience reacted to having JK there. (The caller sounded a bit older than the majority of the crowd.)
