can you believe this
a Hillary supporter using the example of how the right used the botched joke against Kerry to defend Hillary.

1. As they say in French
tel maitre, tel valet, meaning as the master is, so is the servant. My following what's happening with the election has become akin to a slowly self-destructive pathological obsession. I am really sickened to my gut by so many things I see and read, and scared that indeed we may end up with McC. Horrible :puke:

2. poetically said and it matches my fear
The hope though is that this ends in PA. The sad thing is that the Clintons went into this partially to get a second chance on greatness. The way they've done it has jeopardized their reputations - any breaks given are being taken away. The problem is that the simplest way to change that is to win the Presidency and that is the course they are fighting for. At some point, after they see that as not possible, they need to look at the alternative - Bill contributing via his foundation and HRC contributing as a Senator. At this point it is their reputations as well as the Democratic party they are hurting.

8. I share your hope
I wish the Clintons could see past the naked ambition to what they are doing to their own party and to our country. We can't afford four years of McCain. Just the Supreme Court implications alone give me the willies.

I'm among the many who used to like and defend the Clintons. I have lost all respect for both of them.

4. There' an interesting way to look at this - from a Kerry supporter point of view
The subtext the HRC supporter is using is that everyone needs to reject the criticism of Clinton over Bosnia because it is like the unfair smearing of Kerry over the botched joke. The interesting thing is that it is positioned as the implicit assumed truth by the Clinton people that the fury against Kerry was fake, RW and unjustified. This is the part of the party that was most against Kerry in 2006.

It is ironic - because all it led to was multiple links to the utube of HRC saying it was inappropriate. No saying that Kerry was only human there. Yet many of her supporters were arguing that the attacks on her telling a fabricated story 4 times were caused by her being "only human". It doesn't help that other weird HRC stories surfaced because of it.

5. I think the contrast between the two situations
shows what it really means to "misspeak." JK genuinely misspoke, and we know that from the content of his slip-up. We know, because it was supposed to be a joke, and not a part of his biography that could be proven true or false, that an inelegant delivery of his intended comment could change the meaning.

But how do you misspeak about flying into a war zone with your 16-year-old? I mean, I know it's possible to simply say the wrong thing, because when I'm tired, I might tell you "I cleaned the kitchen today," when in reality, I cleaned the bathroom. So my credibility is damaged only until I realize and explain my mistake, and/or somebody notices that the bathroom's clean.

But if the kitchen's dirty, and the bathroom's dirty, after I said I cleaned, that's not an honest mistake.

Unless I am the worst housekeeper of all time. But that's another post.

6. yes
Sadly, I can believe it.

But the defense of JK by so many members of DU has been good to see. Despite what the MSM says, I think our party is really starting to unite in some significant ways!

7. I agree, the pettiness of the Clintons has made people more aware of JK's classiness
Assuming the nomination goes as it should, I hope that Obama can match the classiness, integrity and judgment his mentor showed over the last several years. It is good that, on the Democratic side, that whole episode is being seen for what it really was. Many are remembering that JK was a candidate that we could easily be proud of.

9. I think that
in view of more recent events and poisonous utterings, that whole episode is being reevaluated in seen in a different light.
