Turn CNN on now.

Please say a prayer for Teddy. I hope he is okay.

Edit: please go to this diary, which is a prayer vigil for Teddy:

2. crossing all four paws and praying for the best

Yr hmbl otr crspndnt is not normally the praying type of Otter, but am following this breaking news and sending beams his way bigtime. Ted Kennedy may have not always been flawless -- who among us has? -- but he has always been a leading light for progressives and good government and we here in Massachusetts put high value on his efforts on our behalf and on the behalf of our fellow citizens across the country. Here's hoping that the Goddess will make sure he returns safely to the loving arms of his family very soon.

6. With you on that...
...completely, ralbertson. My prayers for Senator Kennedy and his family...who must be very worried, and have suffered too much loss in their lives. And, as a progressive leader, he is unmatched.

My thoughts are also with those of you here who know and have worked with both the Kennedys and Kerrys. It's a tough time. :grouphug:

4. Prayers for Sen. Kennedy and his family
The first vote I ever cast in my life was for Teddy. I volunteered when he ran for President in 1980. I love Uncle Ted. I hope everything works out for him.

I took these pics of The Greatest Senator Who Ever Lived (what Mass Dems think, anyway) in 2005 at the Lowell State Convention

The Senator danced with the convention delegates to the tune of "You're Still the one!"

God be with him and his family.

8. Such sad news. I hope he comes out of this ok
If it is a stroke, it was critical that he be properly treated quickly.

Doctors can work wonders on stroke victims nowadays, if they start treatment soon enough.

I hope there will be a positive update to share this evening:

The Kennedy family is preparing to host the annual Best Buddies Challenge event in Hyannisport this afternoon, which is a fund-raiser for the organization. Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver and helps people with intellectual disabilities.

Hundreds are expected to participate in the event, which kicked off this morning with a 100-mile bicycle ride from the Kennedy Library in Boston to Hyannisport.

A concert at the Kennedy compound is scheduled for tonight.

It must be really tough to go on with an event like this under the circumstances. I know famous people do this stuff all the time but I don't think I could.

12. And the news is more encouraging
Edited on Sat May-17-08 01:00 PM by TayTay
It sounds like it was a serious event, but that Sen. Kennedy's family is "guardedly optimistic" about a full recovery.

That is very good news indeed.

14. Indications are positive, though of course still not certain.

Teddy the K. is gonna make it. He has to. No way in hell is he gonna miss out on the big victory parties in November and January, when we finally take back America again. He's a big chunk of the reasons why we will, and he is way too stubborn to miss his seat at the table this time.

Hang in there, Unka Ted!

15. JK left the hospital a little while ago. That's a good sign.

If there was serious cause for worry, JK would absolutely have stayed by Teddy's bedside.

As it was, Teddy probably told him to get the heck out. "John, I'm fine. Really. Go away. You're blocking the view out my window, okay? Don't you have anything better to do than hang out here with me? Shoo!"

(BTW, the unidentified second person with JK that CNN kept speculating about when they were showing the vid of his arrival is Drew O'Brien, JK's Boston-based Chief of Staff.)

17. Kerry's statement
05/17/2008
Senator Kerry Statement on Senator Kennedy

BOSTON, MA- Senator John Kerry today released the following statement in regards to Senator Edward Kennedy. Senator Kerry is currently at Massachusetts General Hospital with Senator Kennedy and members of the Kennedy family.

"Ted Kennedy is beloved and respected on both sides of the aisle in the Senate in which he's been a giant for close to half a century, a legend in Massachusetts, and a dear friend to me and Teresa. He's also been a fighter who has overcome adversity again and again with courage, grit, and determination. Teresa and I are praying for Teddy, Vicki and all of his family and we know that everyone in Massachusetts and people throughout the nation pray for a full and speedy recovery for a man whose life's work has touched millions upon millions of lives."

My heart sank when I logged on and saw this. My prayers to Senator Kennedy for a speed recovery.

He has been a nice advocate, with Kerry being a nice surrogate for Obama. Thoughts and prayers are with Senator Kennedy for a speedy recovery here also.

Doctor: Kennedy resting comfortably

Posted: Saturday, May 17, 2008 7:31 PM by Mark Murray
Filed Under: Congress
From NBC's Mark Murray

Dr. Larry Ronan, Sen. Kennedy's primary care physician, released this statement: "Sen. Kennedy was admitted to Massachusetts General today after experiencing a seizure at his home. Preliminary tests have determined that he has not suffered a stroke and is not in any immediate danger. He's resting comfortably, and watching the Red Sox game with his family. Over the next couple of days, Sen. Kennedy will undergo further evaluation to determine the cause of the seizure, and a course of treatment will be determined at that time."

Great news.
