New Kerrycrat here...
My first DU post. Am avid, over-the-top Kerry fan. Have
been lurking and reading on DU since Black Tuesday. Too insecure
to post elsewhere at DU. But folks on this forum seem like kindred
spirits.
:bounce:

1. welcome, hobgoblin!
It's late and I'm about to quit--just checked in for a minute after getting home from an evening out. Yes, we are a cozy bunch of Kerry lovers here, as you must have noticed. :)

This group has helped me ease the pain of Black Tuesday, and the loss of the johnkerry.com blog, which I was on from April till November. Then they pulled the plug--arghhhh! But I love this group.

6. Thanks everyone!
Appreciate the welcome. Nice to know there's a safe house here. Reading all the world horror makes one need to run for refuge. Keep wondering if JK has prez, would we be a little less inclined to
anxiety?

Still reading all the lib journo online, writing letters, signing petitions. Am housebound due to stroke residuals, but would attempt to move heaven and earth relative to anything JK would request of us. He seems to be the only sane voice (plus Boxer & Kennedy) that qualms the fears. Saw him at all three local WI rallies. Was able to get up close and personal and ask a question at a town forum. All photos now scrapbooked!!

Thanks again for the welcome. You've helped the confidence level!

26. Welcome hobgoblin! Greetings from blue Maryland!
I would feel more safe with JK as prez for many reasons. The one that comes to my mind right now is the State of the Union (SOTU) speech. If Kerry gave that speech I can guarantee you two things.
1. He wouldn't have mentioned introducing a bill to discriminate against gays (or as Dubya puts it in doublespeak: "defend the sanctity of marriage). JK is a vocal advocate of gay rights since he entered the Senate in 1985. He thinks that all gays should have the same civil rights as straights. (I will always bring this up because I am a proud bisexual. We queer people are a proud people.)
2. He would have said that we were going to refocus are efforts on getting Osama Bin Laden. JK mentioned that Dubya said nothing about Osama in his SOTU. That is an outrage! The man is to blame for 9/11 and he gets away!

You see the Bush logic here: distract the public with fake crisises like Social Security and gay marriage, so they will forget the real problems like Osama and lack of health care.

7. I'm new here too!
Hey everybody! Like hobgoblin, I've been lurking around DU since Election Day, but things were seeming a bit too vicious until I happened upon this group a couple of days ago. I'm glad I found some fellow Kerry fans, because I can't stand all the hating that's going on elsewhere! I learned to love Kerry during the campaign, and now I can't go back!:hi:

13. Welcome to you too!
One of these days I'm going to make a page of all the things Kerry people have to say about him. I'm so tired of all this nonsense that Kerry didn't connect or didn't have grassroots support. Just plain ridiculous.

15. Kerry Kudos
I agree, Sandnsea. When I approached the podium at the town hall meeting to ask JK "How will you improve the prescription drug benefit for seniors?" as he approached me, I was overwhelmed by his mere presence. He wears his heart on his sleeve and when the pix were uploaded, you can see the genuine caring and concern on his face. In fact, when a good friend saw the photo, she got tears in her eyes and said, "Would you look at the emotion in his eyes and face?" 80,000+ folks clamoured to see him at a WI rally. No one will ever convince me that JK doesn't connect with people!

16. that's one thing i notice about him
when people ask him a question or anyone else he is talking to, he gives them attention like they are the only person that matters at the moment. and it's not just a matter of giving a memorized line, but of him wanting to make sure the person really understands what he is saying. he often asks the people a question in return so he can give a more informative answer. he allows for follow ups also.

i loved this one time on tv where a guy questioned Kerry and he answered but the guy wasn't satisfied because he said how politicians always say they will do this or that. and Kerry told him the truth about how that's why he has to make sure we can get as many democrats in congress also because that's how we get things done.

24. Thx Everybody
for all the nice welcomes. I'm a lifelong Dem, and when it became apparent that JK would be the party's nominee I read up on him and I decided I liked him. However, I met him (very briefly) at a rally in early June and had the opportunity to shake his hand, and I've been hooked ever since. I wouldn't say that I have feelings for him like some of you guys do (yes, I looked through many of the older threads . . . nice) since JK's my dad's age, but I do think JK is cute in an older-guy sort of way, and I love him as if he were a member of my family. I've also met Teresa and Vanessa, on separate occasions, and I'm big fans of theirs, too. JK and his family are great, so when people bash them, I tend to take it personally (although I know I shouldn't . . . )

28. Welcome LeftieLizzie and HobGoblin
The sign of a good group is that we are constantly getting new folks to check in. So, more folks from Wisconsin and ...?

"I've had nothing yet", Alice replied in an offended tone: "so I ca'n't take more."
"You mean you ca'n't take *less*. It's very easy to take *more* than nothing."
