I like and respect ProSense. Always something uplifting to say about JK, to make me feel good again.

Therefore, I find something like the above hard to ignore.

The affair is nothing. But going back on your ideals when so many people depend on them is something I *do* find reprehensible and unforgivable.

I hope to God it isn't true. I'm crying my eyes out as I write this.

1. Hugs Monty
Hugs and love for you. Remember, you didn't do this. Someone else did.

You are a person of faith and belief. You supported a candidate who you thought would be good for your country. The ideals, programs and passion you had to bring about change in America are still there.

The vessel was imperfect. All vessels are imperfect. Your hopes and desire to change this country did not begin or end with one person. Take some time away, go do something that you find refreshing and relaxing. Dream a bit, relax a bit, heal a bit and most of all, find time to just "be."

There are people who will be there for you when you come back. We share your dreams. We'll keep a light on for you while you are away.

:pals:

:grouphug:

Take a break kid. The place will be here when you get back. So will I.

2. At least I have the local races to comfort me.

I'm a leading member of the staff of a cool woman running for State House. At least I won't be completely out of the loop.

I just can't stop

Thank you for all your kind words. See ya later.

Just remember that you were not wrong to believe. You did so for the best possible reasons. The programs and ideals, Edwards spoke of were closer to the record of many other Senators, who really are progressive.

Edwards made his fortune on getting people to believe in him and was successful enough that many people pushed Kerry to pick him. I think Kerry is one of the sharpest people on earth, but he picked him even over the doubts that Shrum reports him having. I assume he was being told that the combination polled well. (I bet both Kerry and Gore would like do-overs on VP selection - and now Gore has to know definitively who was the real gem on his short list.) If Kerry, who sat in the Senate with him (though I don't think they had any committees in common, did not see all this coming, it's no wonder many others with no contact fell for him.

I just hope this doesn't increase cynicism, because as you know there are people there doing what they think is the right thing year after year. That is why public record is important. With anyone other than Edwards, I would agree the affair could be survived - the problem is that he had to be taken completely on faith, because his record didn't match.

4. I still believe there are politicians with integrity
We know they aren't all honest, trustworthy, and able to stay honorable when they make it into the big leagues. Power corrupts. But I still believe that there are good guys in government and out who are working hard for us. A certain tall Senator from MA, for one. He's always seemed very well grounded to me. :)

5. I think it's probably more complicated
than pure cynicism. Maybe he thought once the affair was known, he'd be asked to step down so decided to do it on his own terms. Maybe he just feels like he tried and the country just doesn't care about poverty, or anything else he went to DC to change. It's hard to say what all is going on with him. I would give it time to sort out. If he is sincere, he'll be back.

6. I agree
Edwards's behavior looks very bad, but all the facts aren't known yet. He may just think he needs, as they say, to hide in a hole and pull the hole in after him for a while. He may have been asked to step down. Who knows? For what it's worth, his mistress, who evidently had lots of time to get to know him, thought he was sincere about all these things, and that's a large part of why she fell in love with him. So it's entirely possible that Edwards's motivation is a mixture of genuine idealism and self-interest.

9. That's why we ALL fell in love with him.
His concern for those less fortunate, his intelligence, and his vibrant personality all in a beautiful package.

It's the same reason we fell in love with John Kerry. A beautiful mix of exciting qualities.

7. what did he try to change while Senator in DC ?
i'm not saying he doesn't care about the issue, but i don't buy it that he "tried" to do a lot and felt people didn't care. and if he gives up that easily it doesn't speak well of him.

(yes, i'm feeling kind of angry thinking back at the things said since the last election and what is happening now)

but i agree, if he is sincere he will be back. look at Bill Clinton and the stuff he is doing. even considering his faults i still think and he has shown he cares about things like aids.
