crap? How does anyone make a leap from gannongate to bitching @ Kerry? I don't get it ... I'm tired of it ... I'm really starting to think that the dems here are as bad as the freepers! Who needs repubs to smear our guys, we have plenty right here at DU perfectly happy to do it for them. I wouldn't let anyone I cared for EVER ... EVER run for office, why should the good guys even try?

just crap!

3. KIKS law
Keep it Kerry, stupid. This is apparently the newest and most annoying of the 'Murphy's Law' type things to hit DU. No matter what happens, it's Kerry's fault. (The power that man has just bowls me over. And it's kind of hot too in an LLL sort of way.)

I think we need the canonical list of things that John Kerry is responsible for in Lefty Freeper world. I'll start:

John Kerry failed to fix election fraud in the US. He shoulda known better. Now I get this splitting headache everytime someone says 'Ohio.' It's his fault. Sellout.

BTW, I posted in support of your post. But it won't matter.

4. Welcome to the land of "Johnny Velcro"
where everything sticks.

Poor guy. Apparently you either "get" him or you don't.

It's just pathetic that a majority of the time the bashing sounds like it's coming out of the RW talking points handbook. Elitist... flip flopper... only in it to win it without really caring about people... will do anything politically to win.

And then we see, as the late Hunter S. Thompson saw, a brave, honest, honorable man. Knowing how cynical Hunter could be, I thought that was one of the nicest endorsements ever.

I think that's why I cried so hard last night when I heard HST died. In a short amount of time I'd discovered him and found myself more interested in what he had to say. Like I. F. Stone, I will miss the clarity of his perspective, how he could cut through the bullshit and get to the meat of the matter.

I had to leave GD just now - and a thread in LBN I almost responded to... just constant trashing of Kerry, the Democratic Party, whatever Democratic politician is on the shitlist this week - the same crap, rehashed RNC talking points, distortions, lies - always the same people, always the same complaints - no matter how many thousands of times whatever their spin is has been debunked...

I gave $35 to DU last week to keep my star - and it was for this forum. The rest of this board is mostly a waste of bandwidth. IMHO.

that I ran here for refuge regularly (even if only reading). Kerry 'peoples' are the best - make me laugh when I'm just about ready to go pick a fight w/a stranger just to let it all out! I know better than to argue (or even read) them, but when it's so unrelated & jumps up at you when you are least expecting it ... sometimes something is said before the sense kicks in!

Still wouldn't ever let my kids run for public office, though. I'm surprised we don't get worse in DC than what we have, too much abuse!

Thanks, peoples!

Tying Kerry in with Gannongate? He threw the election because of a 'gentlemen's agreement' with the Rethugs? I don't friggin think so.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1616119

Oh. My. Gawd. This is just sick. Kerry hates those people. I flashed on these lines from the Frontline Show "The Choice." They were talking about all the shit Kerry put up with the the Nixon people. (Who are, essentially the Bush people 30 years later and much, much worse.)

From http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/choice2004/interviews/brinkley.html Interview with Douglas Brinkley, author of Tour of Duty

The right in America -- call them Republicans, the Nixon White House, the FBI, the right -- they went after John Kerry. They took a huge toll out of the guy. We laugh about it now. They looked like they were sort of following him everywhere. His phones were bugged.

John's wife, Julia ,who I've interviewed for hours, is still unable to cope with the harassment that they faced in 1971 and 1972 by the U.S. government. She had a brick go through her window and land by the baby's crib and almost killed their baby in the house that they were going in. They couldn't have a conversation without knowing their lines were tapped.

When you listen to the White House tapes and listen to Chuck Colson, Haldeman, Erlichman, saying, "Let's destroy--" exact words of Chuck Colson -- "Let's destroy {this} young {demagogue} before he becomes {another Ralph Nader}."

Holey f*cking Shit. This is not a guy who would ever, ever roll over for the bastards who did this. How can some of the folks at GD and P think this way? Sheer stupidity? Ingorance? The Left hand forgetting were it had been and who it is fighting? Gawd, this just makes me sick.

24. I was slamming the hell out of a not so genius poster in that
thread! Well, actually, I had 2 of 'em thinking about how stupid their disgust for Kerry is.

Damn, you should have let me finish!

I will debate the bastards until the cows come home. I know the realities of politics and I know just a tad of what it takes to run for office and to hold your office, doing what is right for the people and not what it popular in the eyes of the party.

The greatest presidential candidate (actually president) we have had in the last 50 years is John F. Kerry! He is the 44th president of the USofA.

When you find a thread full of Kerry haters, send me. I will try my best to open their eyes to the truth! :bounce:

I love a good challenge!!!!

in fact it probably makes some of them look like idiots. if someone who didn't have similar views or strong views came upon the thread and were reading it they would probably side with you over some of the conspiracy theorist types. i guess it's one of those where the point might not be to convince just those you are debating but rather the others who are viewing it but not directly participating. make the other side look like the fools they are.

26. In the immortal words of my favorite character from the Wizard of
Oz - "let me at 'em!"

I prefer challenging their little minds to think beyond their simple understanding of politics. I provide them with the facts and ask them to expand their thinking. Some times it is as if I am pounding my head against the wall, but I rather enjoy "bitch slapping" them without using the nasty words that come to mind as I reply to their ignorant rants! ;-)

I had both the not so genius poster thinking beyond his "click" of people to realize that the lies he was spewing were lies. Kerry gave up and Edwards is pissed at him. Ummm, well why the heck didn't Edwards file his own suits challenging the election? He was on the ticket, he had a vested interested, he was an "affected party".

Then the other dweeb, Doyoueverwonderwhatgoesinsomepeoplesbrain, well, I had him/her considering the ramifications if Kerry had not hired professionals to help with the campaign, would that not be a dereliction of duty that all would damn him for all eterenity. The world is so much more than the white background and black letters we see on this forum. If only everyone that slams our candidates would run for office, then they would see how hard it is to win one and harder still to make a difference when you a battling politics and cronism.

Okay, end of rant - but let me know when other evil naysayers are posting, let me have some fun!

27. That is so true!
It is enormously difficult to run for public office. The higher up the chain of offices you go, the harder it gets. (Cuz the knives are out.) I have always given Kerry kudos for coming back from that nasty congressional race and then running for Lt. Gov. in '82. (Though I think it cost him his first marriage.) He had a lot of pols in MA who resented him because he won that Senate seat in '84. (Remember, he was nobody's candidate back then. I think just the Mayor of Boston backed him, but Tip O'Neill didn't. I don't remember if Teddy backed him or not, they have an interesting history.)

One of the things that really and truly pissed me off in the Pres race last year was the press notion that Kerry was so reserved and patrician (and add bullshit line here like aloof) that you can't picture the guy actually running for office. You can't picture him holding public hearings with the fishermen in Gloucester, or talking to the bar flies in Dorchester or any of the other regular folks in MA that pols runnning for office have to talk to, cuz how could someone that high-and-mighty talk to ordinary people. It defies common sense. And it was not like that. He knows how to play the game and he knows how to play it ruthlessly when needed. Else he wouldn't have been elected to a friggin' prize catch like the US Senate. (He wouldn't have. That is a very tasty treat and we only got two of 'em and one is, in effect, a friggin' lifetime appointment. Nobody took a dive so Kerry could get that seat. He fought for it and he fought damn hard.)

The very idea that he would 'throw' a race is an insult and I take it personally. (I do. It offends the rep of MA pols, who are not a lay-down-and-die bunch at all.) And it's stupid beyond words. It's like the idiotic fraternity line. Come on, is there actually a human being who can claim to have a fully functioning brain (I want a CAT scan for proof) that can claim that membership in some silly college club would be a reason to throw a race for President of the USA? Give me a f*cking break. Honestly, I sometimes wish I had a zap button that I could push and send a shock wave through DU to any poster that says something so incredibly stupid that it defies common sense. Cuz some people obviously need shock therapy to give up these kinds of idiotic notions.

30. That's why I try to post in those anti-Kerry threads. I try my best
to enlighten those that have been roved and I point out to them that they are spewing the RW talking points and they have bought into the lies.

I like to point out to them that the neo-cons and RWers are constantly trying to destroy the man and the election is over, so they must be terrified of him. Then I ask them why they think that is.

They have no idea about the real world, the practical application of their principles. They have a narrow view of how things should work and if the candidate doesn't do things the way they think they should, they turn on him/her.

I refuse to accept the RW spin and lies, they drink it up with a straw, not realizing that they are consuming the kool aid.

I will continue to interject my opinion in their hateful threads, I have made many think about how stupid their comments actually are.

Do you realize that the majority of folks that post here believe the Ohio litigation is over? As far as I know, there are at least 3 cases pending in federal court on various voting issues. Do you think any of them know this? Do you think they care to investigate and find out for themselves if "Kerry is doing anything"? Hell no, its a lot easier to bop around the internet from blog to blog reguritating lies and spins than to find out the facts.

I prefer the facts and I love John Kerry! :loveya:

21. Ignorance and stupidity are probably right
Some of them also seem overly impressed with their own ability to further the idiotic conspiracy theories they live and breathe. Several of us tried to argue that there was absolutely no basis for thinking he did anything other than to try to win as hard as he knew how. Your argument is more compelling.

Thanks for posting the link to the great interview. Even as someone still proud to have my McGovern button, I was shocked last year to read in Brinkley's book how they really did try to destroy him. As much as I hated Nixon, I would not have believed that he would order his people to destroy an innocent young couple just because they feared him as a political force. Nixon, Colson and the others were and are truly evil.

That it was strictly political makes it more sickening. They already knew that he was clean and was who and what he said he was. From all the surveillance, they had to know that he was urging the veterans (and others who heard him speak)to work through the system instead of joining the call for revolution. If the Nixon administration had really wanted to heal the country, you would think the best thing they could have done would have been to covertly find someone to do exactly what Kerry was doing at that time.

After reading your post, I went back to the other thread to look at the New Hampshire picture taken in that time frame that coincidentally was posted yesterday. It hurts to even think about how he must have felt at that time or to think of the inner strength he had to pull his life together after all of that. The impact on his wife and his marriage must have been unbearable. Now I understand why no one around him seemed surprised that within weeks of losing this election he was able to act with the grace and dignity with which he did.

I know some other famous MA politician said life wasn't fair, but it really is not fair that half the country can't see these bullies for what they are or Kerry for the patriot he is.

22. It was real bad
One of my 'curiosity' projects when I talk to some of the Dems in my local area is to do a history on what the hell actually happened during that race. (I have access to long-term Dems who have lived in this area since the 40's. Better get their memories down now because time's a wasting.) These are committed Dems who remember the race really well.

This is beyond sickening. People who post this are not Dems, (hell, they are barely human.) Just makes me so angry and sick. They just don't know what they are talking about and what that nasty, nasty race was actually about.

But very intense and emotional and your right that getting memories of this is something that is time sensitive. Among the Democrats, it will be interesting if you find many who were scared to vote for him then. It must have been strange that they next saw him as a prosecutor.

19. I stay completely out of GD and almost left DU because of this attitude
Even though I almost expected it - the intensity of the animosity toward an honorable, hard-working, intelligent, gentlemanly, hard-core Democrat still stuns me. He did everything he could to win - if you were looking you could see how much it meant to him. And he still took his defeat w/ grace and dignity, and went right back to work for the things that matter - like health care for kids. He'll always be my hero.

28. Hatemongering...
I continuously remind myself when reading that garbage how easy it must be to have such a narrow-minded political view that one can hide behind the confines of a keyboard and spew this illiterate sounding crap. Oh, that one of them had just an iota of the intestinal fortitude, grace and dignity of JK!

In a one-on-one, face-to-face discussion I bet the attitude would somehow miraculously dissipate. For sanity's sake (and blood pressure), I just click on another thread or forum.

29. I picture it too, when I read some of those posts
I think to myself that if the individual in question would sit down with John Kerry and spend just 15 minutes talking with him, their attitudes would be transformed. I don't get too mad, usually, because I realize they are just being arrogant in their ignorance.

Which reminds me of Bush. Why does he always speak to audiences with an attitude of "what I'm saying is so obvious: why can't you stupid people understand me?" Even to people in Europe he acts like a big know-it-all. Arrogant ignorance again.
