Thank you Senator for your service to MA as well
The prevailing stereotype of Massachusetts is one of wealth and elitism where the well-to-do sit around and theorize about the problems of those who can't afford two vacations abroad every year. This is not my Massachusetts.
My father was a WWII veteran who fought in the Pacific. He carried wounds both internal and external with him from his service all his life. His funeral, the very mark of his passing, was not complete until that plaque came from the U.S. Navy that noted that he had served his country in a time of war. John Kerry intuitively understands that pride and the need to honor service and sacrifice by making sure we take care of veterans and their needs.
I have family members who have been through hard times. They have worried about where the next paycheck is coming from and whether or not they can meet the next mortgage payment or buy needed medicine for their kids. John Kerry understands that which is why he has fought so hard for children's health care and expanding S-CHIP. It is why he has worked so hard to make housing affordable and available.
It is a terrible thing to have to choose between paying for food or paying for heat. It is frustrating when Community College tuition starts rising and students have to drop out because they can't afford college. It is scary when good jobs go away because corporate greed trumps the needs of working people. John Kerry has been there in these causes and worked hard to help people deal with these crises. He has been an advocate for those without golden passes to the halls of power.
John Kerry has been a terrific Senator for Massachusetts. This, in turn, has made him a terrific Senator for our country. I am proud as a MA resident of the work he has done for my state and for this country. It has been, and no doubt will continue to be, an honor to advocate for the good Senator from Massachusetts.
I work for Sen. John Kerry as an internet outreach coordinator. No, I'm not getting mushy in my dotage. I mean every word. It has been an honor. Just as it has been an honor to deal with everyone here. We have so much work to do going forward. I cannot think of doing any of it without the good people who check in here and inspire me so often.
So, thank you all too.
