Tay Tay - is Kerry going with Biden to Pakistan?
Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 10:24 PM by pirhana
A Pakistani news source is reporting that Joe will be there on the 9th with a high-level congressional delegation(sounds like Kerry to me!)

Biden has alot of people on the ground in Pakistan, and Pakistan has been an area of expertise for him, so it kinda makes sense that he's going...but it would make more sense if Kerry was going with him.

If he is, let's just hope there's no snowstorms this time :)

on edit - it's not being reported by US news sources yet.

1. you beat me to crossposting your post... wondering who'll take Kerry's subcommittee too
though it will probably continue to be important enough for full committee hearings (so under Kerry)

2. I'm looking forward to Kerry as chair of the SFRC.
And I bet Biden is happy that it is Kerry that is taking his place.

4. Interesting question
but Kerry was just there last month after going to India. Then Kerry was openly said to be unofficially representing Obama - while officially there as per his SFRC position - a neat loophole. I would assume that he will have reported whatever insights he had to Biden, Obama, HRC and anyone else with a need to know.

We might have a clue when the SRFC schedule is given - if there is a "gap" around the 9th.

5. I was wondering about that.
I knew Kerry went to India, but wasn't sure if he also went to Pakistan.

Since Kerry just went, maybe that explains why Biden is going.

Maybe Kerry found out some information when he was over there and Biden is going to follow up on it.

Or maybe . . .

Oh - to only know what is really going on. :)

7. I have no news on that at all
As has been pointed out, Sen. Kerry was in The Republic of Georgia, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan in mid-December. I have not heard of any plans for him to go to that region again so soon.

I think he's busy settling in as the new SFRC Chair. So, I don't think so, but, I have no definite on that.

And hey, nice to hear from you!

Kerry To Join Sen. Biden on Bi-Partisan Senate CODEL to Southwest Asia

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Incoming Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) today announced he will join outgoing Foreign Relations Committee Chairman and Vice President-Elect Sen. Joe Biden later this week on a fact-finding trip to Southwest Asia. The CODEL will also include Sens. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)

Kerry most recently traveled to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Georgia and India, this past December where he met with Presidents Asif Ali Zardari, Hamid Karzai, Mikheil Saakashvili, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, among other top officials. In the 110th Congress, Kerry served as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs.

For security purposes, the details of the congressional delegation’s itinerary will be released throughout the week-long trip.
