Sen. Kerry's statement on the death of Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

"Eunice personified the Kennedy family's call to public service by championing the rights of the disabled through the Special Olympics. Her memory will live on through the millions of individuals who are leading meaningful lives because of her vision. She dreamed of a world which knew no barriers to those with intellectual disabilities, and she leaves behind a world much better than which she found it." — Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.

I will personally always be grateful to Mrs. Shriver for her involvement with the Special Olympics. As a mother of a daughter with disabilities, I have witnessed first hand how much the Special Olympics means to people with disabilities. My daughter won a few medals in the swimming games and she still proudly displays them in her room. The games were a turning point for us all in the family, and we discovered that having disabilities does not mean that you can not achieve and live out your dreams.

1. Lovely post, wisteria. Thank you for your words...
...and for posting Senator Kerry's statement.

It's true that "...she leaves behind a world much better than when she found it." What a great world this would be if the same were true of all of us, :patriot:

3. Wisteria, would you consider writing something up on that?
I would very much like to make sure it goes to the Kennedy family and there are ways of getting it there.

These testimonials to what Mrs. Shriver meant to real people is just invaluable, especially in a time of grief and sadness. I would like to be able to forward these to some folks, if you don't mind.

What would you like her children to know?

4. If you give me a day or two, I can do justice to it.
Now, I am involved in intense class studies.
