Here is the link to today's speeches - http://www.c-spanvideo.org/congress/?q=node/77539&hors=s

Kerry and his staff are fantastic. When Kerry spoke earlier, he quoted McCain in 2008 and Burr said that factcheck.org refuted it. Now, before speaking on his own amendment, he had the the factcheck.org article, which did NOT refute Kerry's point. It simply said that McCain's plan, while cutting costs would NOT cut benefits. Kerry is now making the point that this is exactly what the current bill is doing.

3. WOW
McCain came to the floor and - as angry as I ever saw this angry man - said that he never wanted to cut benefits - which, of course is what Senator Kerry just said. Kerry asked for time to rebut and it was worked out. He took the time to speak of bipartisanship and - saying he disagreed with the ad McCain was speaking of, but pointed out that was NOT what he said, calmly reiterating that what McCain said in 2008 was what they were saying now.

(Those of us who thought a Kerry/McCain race would have been a Kerry landslide should feel vindicated. McCain was out of control.)

4. Great debate. Did you hear JK say...
...(paraphrasing) something like,'This is how the Senate is supposed to work'? :)

5. Yep, he was unbelievable in spite of what seems a very bad cold.
I liked that he distanced himself from the ad too.

What is awesome is that Kerry has been making the point that this is not how the Senate is suppose to run. The fact is that those cuts in clear cut waste are something that both parties should very easily agree to. They are using it just to scare people. Here, I assume that Kerry could have guessed McCain would explode. That chart was really tough on McCain. This is not a shift in position - the "now" statement is a lie and fear mongering, given his 2008 position. Then Burr thought he could end it by speaking of the factcheck.org document.

Kerry did a great job to USE that document to not only prove that it didn't counter what he had said, but that it actually improved Kerry's argument to point out it didn't cut services.

7. It was a thing of...
...beauty. :) It's sort of the Presidential debate we would have had if JK had run in '08. He would have ...civilly...wiped the floor with John McCain.

9. That was my first thought
I remember exchanging posts with BLM hypothesizing something like this - though speaking just for me - this was even more one sided than I thought possible.

10. Here's info on that amendment:
http://senatus.wordpress.com/2009/12/05/kerry-home-health-amendment-passes/

An amendment offered by Senator John Kerry (D-MA) to the health reform bill (H.R. 3590) has been adopted by a vote of 96 to 0.

It would preserve guaranteed home health benefits for seniors in the bill.

If you go to the link, you can read the amendment (it provides links).
