Sen. Kerry is getting Kennedy's desk
Edited on Wed Feb-03-10 10:33 PM by wisteria
This seems so historic to me. The desk used by President Kennedy then Senator Kennedy. Imagine Senator Kerry carving his name in the drawer along side Pres.Kennedy and Senator Kennedy's names.

The article is smarmy, but informative.

1. Good. I couldn't bear the thought of Brown carving his name
next to Teddy's and JFK's names. That would be sick.

5. Yah, and I hope he doesn't get Robert Kennedy's either. How about them giving him
former Pa Senator Santorum's old desk?

3. That will likely mean so much to him
as he loved both of them.

Some have said that Brown gets Kennedy's office, but I doubt that is true either.

6. No, I don't think he will get the prime office either- to the basement with him.
It was good enough for Hillary Clinton-it should do perfectly for Brown.

12. Apparently, he is getting Kennedy's office until at least 2010.
I suppose because of the special election he won, they have no place for him on the lower level yet. But, it makes me sick to think this guy is sitting in Kennedy's nice office and is there as an obstructionist. :puke: X 10

and leave him some prime basement Senate real estate?

Here is hoping that he will be less horrible than my expectations...

16. Kirk just finished his farewell speech, and Kerry concluded.
Just noted that no Republican was on the floor for this speech. So much for bipartisanship.

19. They were all there today
With copious clapping after he was sworn in, which is the norm. It will be interesting to see if he settles down to just doing his work. I wonder which committees the Republicans intend to put him on. I hope they do not put him on SFRC. (I think John Warner and Webb were both on Armed Services.)

21. And M$M continues their breathless coverage ...
What "work" exactly is Pickup Truck guy going to do??? I somehow have problems seeing him actually analyzing legislation as promised. The bills are LONG and may include BIG words!!!!

The junior senator from Massachusetts will continue to be Pickup Truck guy to me. There are just so many things that send me over the edge about the guy, including having the same last name of my Senator Brown, the real deal, the progressive, the guy who won't take his Senate health insurance until the rest of us get coverage.

Senator Kerry was classy during the swearing in ... I expect Pickup Truck guy won't be as polite to JK, but that would require class.

And, I can't stand to look at him for long, I feel like I need a shower, all I envision is him posing nude for Cosmo and covering his little thing-eww.

24. I don't get why the electorate keeps getting sold empty suits
Pickup Truck guy is good-looking in a vapid sort of way, but it's pretty clear that the well-coiffed head isn't bothered by any big thoughts. Why on EARTH do supposedly legitimate journalists gush unendingly about empty-headed fools???

Sarah Pallin??? Really??? I like ALL the Founding Fathers??? Some clown who posed for a centerfold???

Complicated problems don't need knuckleheads making decisions. Why do we keep getting sold knuckleheads?

27. this is a question I ask myself daily
and, have, indeed, been asking myself since Reagan was elected in 1980 (well, actually, since he was elected governor of CA, but that's another story, except to note that CA is still suffering the effects of the Prop 13 mentality the way the US continues to suffer for our fellow citizens' continuing propensity to fall for celebrity and shallowness ).
Especially NOW, when surely people can see that we have big problems that require serious, hard work, and intelligence and integrity, to tackle. The kind of problems for which driving a *#*$*% pickup truck, is utterly beside the point.

23. Schumer is getting the RFK seat - so Brown doesn't get that either

The seating today of Republican Scott Brown to take the place of the late Massachusetts Democrat Sen. Edward Kennedy set of a shuffling of desk assignments in the Senate chamber.

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) will take Kennedy's old desk, and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) will take the old desk of former New York Sen. Bobby Kennedy, a Schumer aide confirmed today.

Each desk has its own history, a history that the senators themselves actually inscribe into the drawer of the desk, something you can see on this arcane but interesting Senate website. Click on a seat -- Schumer's is number 61 -- to see the list of senators who have used the desk and a picture of the tagged desk drawer. Schumer will take the desk number 46 now used by Kerry.
