Great new campaign email from JK:News: Republican Leader Speaks Truth!
Haha, I love how he made Boehner own--and eat--those words! :D So cleverly written on JK's part, but at the same time so pertinent and true!

Hello Tara

Yesterday, the Republicans released their "Pledge" of how they'd govern, and Republican Leader John Boehner let the truth slip out:

"We are not going to be any different than what we've been."

Can't get much clearer than that! Their Rove-backed shadowy front groups are trying to spend millions to hide the truth, but it's right there: the Republicans want to bring us back to the policies that made their donors and friends richer, but the rest of America got hurt. We need to stand up to them.

And, in Illinois, in the fight for the very Senate seat Barack Obama held, we have a great progressive who is taking the fight to the Republicans. Alexi Giannoulias is under heavy attack, with well-funded smear campaigns trying to bring him down. But instead of hiding, or trying to find some "middle way," he's standing strong for progressive beliefs, standing strong for a final end to the Bush Republican era and a new progressive future.

We need to help our friends when they stand up for us. Please do what you can to contribute to Alexi's campaign right now.

Here's a great example: we're currently in a tough debate between giving tax cuts to working Americans who need them, or busting our budget by extending Bush era tax cuts to the wealthy. Alexi's standing strong for working Americans and taking the fight to the Republicans on it.

Because of that, he's getting hammered by misleading ads from the rightwing front groups, but he's not backing down. He's fighting for us. We need to fight for him.

So, contribute $30, $50, or $75 to Alexi right now to show him that we've got his back.

We need to help our friends when they need it, so they can stand with us when the time comes to pass the legislation we need. We need fighters who can help keep us moving forward, not back to the old, disastrous policies John Boehner wants to push on us all over again.

Thanks,
John Kerry

2. LOL.
A very tiny part of me would almost like to see Boehner become Speaker-he is such a screw up and a joke-it would be amusing.

must be similar to the tinsy-bitsy part of me that wants McConnell to become majority leader and have to deal with the crazies that would be in his caucus. McConnell is many unpleasant things but he is not crazy nor unfortunately stupid (Boehner is though, I think).

4. Some strange karma here :-)
I was against it... you know... I am sure Boehner did not mean these words to come out exactly as they came either.

6. This explains the new campaign by the Herald to silence Kerry during this election cycle.
I wont post a link, but it is easy to find and fundamentally ridiculous.

7. You mean with the yacht accusations?
If so that might explain the Christine O'Donnell reference to it. But, the final result was the Kerrys paying a tax they very likely could have legally avoided - though at a political cost. (In fact, given that the Herald came after him before he took full possession of the yacht, they may have pushed the issue too early. Had they waited a few months, it would have been clearer that they were not intending to pay the tax.)

However the fact that Teresa is obviously the majority owner and she is a PA resident, it really is not clear they really had an obligation to pay. At any rate, he broke no laws.

9. That is more stupid of the right - Kerry's comment is easily defended
There is a disconnect when the Republicans themselves - if pushed - agree that they would keep most of the 5 or 6 features of the Health Care bill that just took affect. The point is that when asked whether they want specific features - in the bill ) they are positive, but negative on the bill.

Thanks - I just saw some putting the BH article on DU. Apparently they are willing to use Murdoch against Kerry.

13. At least, this is a handful of posters, but the one from MA has no excuse.
He should know better than to trust Hillary Chabot.

10. I think I saw the relevant article today on the newstand
Reading between the lines of the article, it sounds like the actual original statement was just a simple statement of uncontroversial (and indeed widely held) fact, but the Herald, of course, took it out of context and twisted it into a misleading headline and concluding statement.

Disgusting.

On Vermont public radio this weekend, a commentator compared the 60's (another turbulent time) with our current turbulent time, and noted one important difference:
in the 60's, the mainstream media were a moderating influence, a central/centrist source of information trusted by most citizens. Now, the media (Faux news as exhibit A) are a POLARIZING influence, and increasingly substitute opinion in the place of facts.

A democracy/citizenry that doesn't respect (or can't tell ) the difference between fact and opinion is one that will continue to be distorted and stymied by lies and fear. When is our country going to get over this pernicious disease?

11. The RW media is so transparent. Yes, they don't like him calling out Republicans
and raising money for Democrats. But, this is dispicable. Trying to make the public think Senator Kerry would actually call them stupid. This is wrong on so many levels and I hope it backfires on them. Most reasonable people understand what Senator Kerry is saying.
