Nancy Pelosi Statement
Glad to hear her take a stand, even if Reid wouldn't.

Nancy Pelosi issued a statement earlier today on this issue.

WASHINGTON, March 20 -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on Congressional involvement in the Terri Schiavo case:

"The case of Terri Schiavo is a sad and tragic situation. Congressional leaders have no business substituting their judgment for that of multiple state courts that have extensively considered the issues in this intensely personal family matter. The actions of the majority in attempting to pass constitutionally-dubious legislation are highly irregular and an improper use of legislative authority.

"Michael Schiavo is faced with a devastating decision, but, having been through the proper legal process, the decision for his wife's care belongs to him and to God.

"This rush to exploit a personal tragedy is not fair to those involved and will not create good policy."

Bunch of stuff

1. But she didn't bother to vote. That would have been really taking a stand!

2. Where is she?
Alot of people had already gone home for Easter break. Some are over in Iraq. I'm not sure where she is, but maybe she couldn't make it back in time. I don't know.

3. Well, alot of the other side made it back with some difficulty. I believe
it was the Dems that forced a physical vote to begin with. I did notice that the repukes tried to pummel it through with a vocal ayes and nays ,and were very quick to try to say the ayes had it, but the dems asked for the roll call. I also noticed the most liberal and outspoken Dems DIDN'T vote. I guess they were playing politics, both sides against the middle. Yuck!

4. They spoke, but didn't vote?
I was at my daughter's, so I didn't get to watch. I don't know who did what. I do know that some people are over in Iraq, but I don't know who.

6. I'm waiting for the list
To kind of see who did what, where these yea Dems were from, that sort of thing. We do have some rural and southern Democrats and I'm not going to toss the whole crew overboard if they're the ones who voted for this stupidity. Look at how many DUers think letting her die is pure evil.

8. Only 1 of mine showed
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 03:41 AM by sandnsea
Wu from the Portland area. I don't even think the one Pub from Oregon was there. Most of the vote looks as I would expect, from the names I recognized. Meek surprised me, a couple of others. I wish the ones who voted with them would have just stayed home.

Thanks for the list.

11. A quick
Hooray for Barney!!!!!! :loveya:

I'm getting lazy, what with never having to email my congresspeople except to pat them on the back.

Enough gloating. Back to work.

10. She's in the Middle East
I couldn't find the link again, but last night in one of the GD or GDP threads around the time of the vote someone posted a list of the Reps who went to the Middle East with a bunch of Senators (including both Reid and Durbin, so there's your Senate Dem leadership). She was on it.

My Rep (Luis Gutierrez, IL-4) was there, though, and voted no. Yay!
