Governor Haley Barbour is the newest name being thrown around in Washington as a 2008 Republican presidential candidate. An article in U.S. News and World Report compares Barbour to Jimmy Carter. (Ed: :wtf:)
It says even though he doesn't have a national following, Barbour's southern ways have charmed his people and the media, much like former southern Governor Jimmy Carter. Barbour is the former chair of the Republican National Committee and lobbyist in Washington.I'm not going to look for the original article because of the particular rag it's in; however, this would be a dream come true. I'll freely admit that some outlets of the local media will worship the guy, but not regular people. This pig has pissed off practically everyone by purging Medicaid rolls, something that any Democrat worth his/her salt (*ahem*) would leap on and pound him with. His latest stunt involves giving Republican state legislators talking points for cutting funding for the schools. People don't like this crap, not even Republicans. I've talked to some and they are not pleased with him.
So, once his record got out, any "charm" he affected would be negated by the cold facts of what he's done. By the end of his term, there should be plenty of things to fling in his face should he take it into his head to run for president. (And fortunately, I'm going to be somewhere else by 2007.)
We should totally do what Freepers and right-wing columnists do. We should play mind games, trying to pick their candidates for them. Personally I think that JK, just for starters, would lick his chops at the prospect of going against this sleazebag. Oh man would that be delightful.
