Hearings on NOAA tsunami warnings will happen
Why post that here:
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/12/29/noaas_role_in_warning_nations_is_questioned/
Wherein it says:
Snowe chairs the Senate's Subcommittee on Oceans, Fisheries, and Coast Guard, which has oversight over the NOAA. April Boyd, a spokeswoman for ranking Democratic member John F. Kerry of Massachusetts, said she expected hearings on NOAA's reaction.

Looks like the rest of the world wants to know why they didn't get the NOAA warnings in time. Could be interesting. And Olympis Snowe is a 'good' and, more importantly, sane Repub. And the Shrub's heartless initial response to this disaster is reflecting badly on the US in world opinion.

1. Tourism industry
This story isn't being told and it's starting to piss me off.

"Sulamee Prachuab, who heads the department’s Seismological Bureau, said the agency needed to be cautious because the government’s tourism agency deems that such warnings would hurt tourism if a predicted natural disaster didn’t occur.

The department did issue warnings of the impending tidal wave Sunday, but broadcasts beamed to tourist resorts in the country’s south underestimated the threat, and a website caution was not posted until three hours after the first deluge hit southern Thailand’s resorts."

2. This could be an interesting hearing
I forgot Kerry was on this sub-committee. We are talking about the loss of a possible 100,000 people. How many could have been saved if the warnings had been given in time? WTF is going on at NOAA? We could have tried harder to give notice to Sri Lanka and Indonesia. And we muffed up a golden opportunity to curry favor with the world's largest Muslim nation.

Is there any possible way that the Shrubofiles could have handled this worse? 4 days go by before The Idiot comes out and expresses the condolences of the American people. (Clinton, a real President, beat him to it. How embarrassing. And WH aides were trashing Clinton for this. Honestly!)

Olympia Snowe is a good Senator. Hopefully she actually holds these hearings and they actually do some good. I have a feeling they will be more closely watched internationally than at home though.

3. One other thing ....
Does anyone want these kind of things posted? (Updates on what is going on and what Kerry is up to in his day job as MA Senator.) I work for a media company and I search the news for a living. I have access to around 10,000 sources globally and archives that go back aways. I find news items from time to time, but I'm not sure if people want updates. Let me know and I will post stuff. (Again, I am new. I want to respect tradition here. And I will summarize stories, I can't break copyright.)

5. Absolutely Tay Tay
Always post anything you can. Please because you have to remember you have political junkies and Kerry maniacs like me on this site LOL. We want more more more! Never get enough. You know what is weird I have been working on a piece and was ready to get it posted about
Kerry and all his committee assignments and this beat me to it LOL. I had to attend my uncle's funeral today and even after I got home it took me awhile to get myself together before I got back on the computer so I haven't got much done today. I will get it posted here in a little while. It's a pretty layout of all the committee's he is in. But he is the ranking member of this committee. I would say he is pretty well pissed right now between all that has happen and Chimp being a horse's ass and taking four days to get off his ass and do his job!

7. I think I know what a "ranking" member is,,,but?
Are there one Dem and one Rep. member that have seniority and head up each committee? Or is "ranking" the one top member? Or is it someone who has just been on it long enough? I never really knew.

8. Yes
Some committees don't have as many members in them as others either. But there is always ranking democrat and a ranking repuke in each committee. It's like being the coach for your team.

10. We want them too!
At LightUpTheDarkness.org! There's still a few things we're working on to finish up the site, but we will definitely want Kerry stuff posted. We're going to work up a page that will keep track of the Administration, the legislation we've got to watch and get active on as it comes up. Then the blog page will hopefully be more Kerry and Dem activity, as well as news about Dem programs and policies that are working. The Republicans have done such a job on the American people about how horrible liberals are, we've got to start claiming our successes. And the truth is, people really want the liberal programs, they have just been shamed into denying it.
