1. my standard reply...
Kerry voted to start this war because BUSH told him that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction.

Kerry's only mistake is that he believed what the president of the US said.

5. It wasn't a vote for war
It was a vote to show the UN and Iraq that the US was serious about weapons proliferation, that's why Kerry voted for the IWR. Bush said it wasn't a vote for war, everybody said it wasn't a vote for war. It was supposed to be a vote to do exactly what it did, get the weapons inspectors back into Iraq and figure out what was going on. The vote accomplished its objective. Bush went to war anyway.

2. Ignore them
This morning was a big ignore day for me, with all these people trying the big Bush/Rove/CIA/Mi6 conspiracy. I had really big problems with that at breakfast time.

3. No kidding.
There's a big difference between voting for the threat of war to get inspectors if (as Kerry said) and misusing your authority to start a war (like Bush did).

4. You can explain it to them until you are blue in the face
and they just don't want to understand the truth. They aren't worth my time. I think I am just going to groan every time they mention this so misunderstood vote.

6. It is an absolutist position
I was angry when Kerry voted to give the authority, but I understand his reasons. But the truth is still the truth and John Kerry did not authorize the invasion of Iraq, he didn't screw up the planning, assign too few troops to the operation, allow the local populace to loot vital infrastructure and he didn't fire the Baathists and allow the country to degenerate into anarchy.

* did that. And all the carping about that Senate vote can't change the fact that this is *'s war, not John Kerry's. The arguments that say it is are foolish and short-sighted.

7. Amen, TayTay
He had a choice to make, and he made it in favor of national security, not wanting to risk it if * happened to be correct on the WMDs. But that's all he's responsible for.

Today was another day of wishing so much that he were president now. I even mentally erased *, as he stood next to Blair and Chirac as Blair spoke about the attacks, and put Kerry in his place! It's where he should be, dammit, and he'd be doing things so much better than * if he were in his rightful place.

8. Many on DU are BABB - Blame Anybody But Bush
On just about any thread on DU you will find people absolving Bush of responsibility. . .

It is always somebody else's fault.

9. Well said. I am tired of "progressives" picking apart
every candidate there is for every little thing... There is no absolute purity out there!

10. the worst that can be said of Kerry's IWR vote
is that he erred on the side of caution...

I can live with that.

The constant blaming of Kerry for "starting" the Iraq war pisses me off more than just about anything else. The asshats who perpetuate that nonsense choose to stick a knife in the back of John Kerry when Bush is standing right in front of them.
