Cute story: I met another Kerry volunteer in Boston today
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 11:04 PM by TayTay
I took my son to see Emerson College in Boston today. The tour of the place was given by two students, one of whom was a nice girl from Kentucky who was a political communications major at the school. (Emerson is an 'arts college,' but they have a very strong political comm department and get a lot of local Dem contacts to come in and work with the kids.)

This girl had worked with the KErry campaign last year in Boston (maybe next to Whome? Don't know.) I asked her if she went to New Hampshire for the primary and she looked at me funny. (Too friggin cold. She was from Kentucky. LOL! Primary week, that strange and exhilarating time after the Iowa caucuses had night wind chilld of -40 degress. Yeah, minus forty. Human skin is subject to frostbite in like 40 seconds under those conditions.)

Anyway, this girl had worked tables at the DNC in Boston last year and then continued to work for the campaign right up till the end. She got into Faneuil Hall for the consession speech. () and said she was upfront and talked to Teresa and Alexandra Kerry after the speech. (She loved Teresa, a class act.) We also talked about the 'Kerry girls' and this student was so impressed with both how normal they were and how very, very intelligent they were. They were sort of role models for her, which was so nice.

Ahm, I also asked this student if she was still involved in MA Dem politics. Cux, you know, it's never too soon to lock up people and there are races next year and well, you never know, she could be a crackling good speech writer. (I have needs here people, right here in MA. I know some folks who are running next year and well, it never hurts to get nice young things involved in righteous causes.)

Emerson was contacted by The Daily Show last year who wanted to base their Dem convention coverage at the school becuase they have such good facilities. They were already taken, so TDS had to go out to BU. And Sen. Kennedy uses the Emerson facilities to do a lot of 'talk to the Senator' videos. That was neat.

Oh, and I survived another Red Sox nail-biter tonight. I love David Wells. He pitched gutsy tonight. Sawx win and live to fight again tomorrow. Whew!

1. Did you tell this girl to join us here? She sounds great.
I envy her for meeting Teresa and Alex, and yes, I am envious for her being at Faneuil Hall for the speech. Even tho it was heartbreaking, I'm sure there was alot of love in that room.

So are the Sox gonna take it all again this year?

2. I have a feeling I'll be seeing her 'around' LOL!
The old rule (pre-miracle last year) for the Red Sox was, "You never lose today when losing tomorrow might be infinitely more painful to your loyal fans." It's too early to tell if last year broke the curse or if it was temporary.

That said, I'm glued to the TV this weekend. It's just to freakin good to miss. I am also expecting a Kerry sighting at Fenway. He hasn't showed for hardly any games. I have no idea if this is good, "Sen. Kerry doesn't take advantage of personal connections to score tickets to big games," or not good, "Hey, if I knew the owners, I be sitting in the owners box, perceptions be damned." Not sure, little of both, I guess. I wouldn't be surprised if Kerry was at the game tomorrow with one of his daughters though.

3. I'm so desperate to see Kerry, I would probably go to the ball park
to see if I could catch a glimpse of him.:eyes:

4. Did you see that Robert Redford
and Bill O'Reilly were both there?

Great game. And for the record, I'm still operating under the old rule myself. I always expect the Six to break my heart. It just doesn't feel as potentially tragic this year as it used to!

5. Did I ever mention
that we went to one of the Daily Show tapings at BU?? It was the first one - the one with Bill Richardson as guest. What an experience.

It was a weird coincidence, actually. My birthday wish was to see the Daily Show live, so my husband called for tickets. We figured we'd go down to NY for a few days and visit our son. But when he was giving the person our address he said, "Oh, we're just about to start giving out tickets for the Boston shows. Would you prefer that?" So instead of us going to NY to visit our son, he came up to Boston to go to the show with us.

I recommend it highly if you're a fan, and you don't mind waiting in line for a long time. It was SO much fun.

7. He LOVED Emerson. It's very creative and vibrant
Highly conpetitive to get in, so we shall see. (You can't always get what you want, sigh!) He is scheduled to see 5 or 6 more schools, but Emerson is his top choice. Wonderful school I loved it.
