Pure catnip: Getting that Bono Guitar appraised
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 09:18 AM by TayTay
From The Boston Globe:http://www.boston.com/ae/celebrity/articles/2005/10/13/logan_radar_woes_cause_bumpy_rides/?rss_id=Boston+Globe+--+Living+/+Arts+News

Around town
Being a presidential also-ran has its privileges. John Kerry, who went backstage after U2's recent show in Boston, walked into Cambridge Music the other day with a sweet guitar given to him by Bono. He needed to get the custom ax appraised because pols need to report the value of all gifts. The Gretsch ''Bono Irish Falcon" lists for $4,500. Before leaving, Kerry paid $600 for a Coupe tube amplifier and bought a book, ''Essential Licks for Guitars," a DVD, ''Beginning Rock Guitar: Lead and Rhythm," assorted picks, and three sets of strings. . . .

I can't help myself here, wait for it, ..... and the beat goes on. (Kill me later.)

1. Beginning Rock Guitar: Lead and Rhythm - THAT IS A GREAT DVD!
I'm glad Cambridge Music steered him in the right direction, because there are so many crappy videos out there.

OTOH I am sure The Edge could spare a little time for a few private lessons.

4. Whenever I walk by their house
I'm usually listening to my iPod or talking to a friend, but I make a point of pausing my iPod or taking a brief pause in my conversation whenever I walk by, just in case I hear anything. So far, no luck:-(, but I've only been here for a month and a half, so there's hope for the future!

3. Thanks for posting this - Catnip is right
It's great to see that so many cultural icons are willing to publicly compliment Kerry even after November. That was really special that Bono gave him a guitar.

6. Well, there's more to that.

It's one thing to take a stand in a two-way, current election. It's a bit of another thing if every politician thinks they can use your concerts as fundraising events to imply that you support them, when they haven't even asked.

And someone posted that the right-wing source of the Hillary version of the story may have just made a "typo" to deflect from the real issue, which is the Santorum thing.

7. I see what you mean

The artist has no part in this and can be used by people he likely disagrees with (Santorum). Additionally as noted scalping is illegal in most (all?) states, though I think this being a fund raiser skirts the issue - as the cost of going to a fundraiser is never the fair market value for the event or meal.

I apologize for posting it - but thought it was an interesting contrast.

I can't believe te dishonestly implicit in the Santorum invitation you linked to.
