Folks please do this survey.....
http://paps.p-99.com/

if you live in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

The reason you need to do it will be abundantly clear.

G'night all....

2. I wish I lived in one of the states
I really hate the fact that the respondents are self selected.

3. Multiple methodologies...
He is doing it for PhD research so there must be some statistically valid component to it. I wonder if part of his study will actually contrast the responses from the internet survey (self-selected) vs the statistically sampled responses.

In his preface he says that in addition to the internet survey there is a 5000-person sample for a mailed survey, plus focus groups and in-depth interviews.

4. That's interesting

I didn't mean to be snarky - it's very very hard to get good results in any political or sociological study. Even in the mailed sample, the response rate will make it hard to make the needed assumption that the non-responders are similar to the responders. This is becoming a bigger problem for political polling as well as the number of people they can reach who are willing to answer questions is falling. He does seem to be making a concerted effort to use all the tools available to him. (My comment was a knee jerk reaction - and unfair - when I did sampling it was usually of phone bills, or some type of telephone equiptment etc- and we could get access to all of them.)

That he is doing both a traditional mailed sample and an internet sample is very interesting. He will likely use pre-existing information on sex/income/race etc to weight both groups to get his results and it would be interesting to see on a cell by cell basis if the internet sample matches the mailed sample.

It looks like an interesting study with some unusual questions. There are small things that could cause misleading results - his question on words to describe Kerry will likely end up with the most selected being "boring". It's the first choice and could end up being picked by almost all Democrats who support another candidate. (because it's negative and unfortunately a MSM theme without questioning his intelligence, decency, skills, or character) There are so many positive characteristics listed that the people who have a positive view will be split, although he may plan to combine categories in his results. Might be interesting to see which ones would be most choosen by the Kerry group. Although much more difficult to tabulate, an open ended question would have been more interesting.

It was interesting that he seems primarily interested in Kerry. He will have a fascinating data set to work with as he will know if they were for Kerry in the primaries last time, who they voted for in the election, and head to head results against both other Democrats and Republicans. (It would be interesting to see for Kerry voters, how many might shift to McCain.) I would definately be interested in seeing the results.

The open ended comments at the end should be interesting.

5. Done!
I'm glad I was able to respond to this. I responded to the open ended questions quite completely. A kick for our other Midwestern Kerrycrats - I know there are a ton of you in PA, so come on and help out our man!

PS why aren't Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan included?

7. Well, that was easy.
Except for "describe John Kerry's personality".
The question I would ask is "What makes your candidate stand out from other '08 candidates?".
I guess it was asked in the open ended section, but it should have been in the multiple choice.
What do the rest of you think? Remember, multiple choice, so one or two words. And not "hands" or "jeans".
