Horrible! I am so UPSET! NH Mayor Baines seems to have lost
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 08:17 PM by _dynamicdems
the race to a Rove look-alike Republican #$%#%@#$#!

From the union leader 5 minutes ago:

Manchester — Ward 3 alderman Frank Guinta appears to have upset Manchester Mayor Robert Baines in the city’s mayoral contest, poll results show.

With all 12 of the city’s wards reporting, Guinta received 10,115 votes while Baines, the city’s three-term mayor, received 9,579 votes, according to unofficial poll results. Should the results hold, the Republican alderman will have upset the Democratic mayor in a surprising victory.

:wtf:

RECOUNT! $@#%@@#

Edit: added photo of Guinta
See a certain smug resemblence?

4. Nothing yet.
This is so sad! Mayor Baines seems like such a sweetie (that picture of him and his little grandson speaks volumes) and he and John Kerry seem very close.

No word yet...just the Union Leader. Will there be a concession speech? I'll keep checking but there is nothing on local television.

2. I'm so sorry.
This is awful. Rethugs!

I liked the Mayor very much. Damn. I hope this doesn't hold up. Damn the tax issue in NH. It always trumps everything else.

6. I don't think it was all the tax issue...
entirely. AGAIN, the predictions were so incredibly wrong. How come whenever there is a big difference from predicted results, it is usually the Repug that wins?

5. I don't live in Manchester, so I don't know about the voting machines.
I've been trying to find out. This was not supposed to be a close race. Baines was WAY ahead.

Repug chicanery. Those @$%&*$@+!

Edit: they aren't the Diebold machines. Pencil votes are optically scanned. But don't they recount when an election is close?

8. He was going for his 4th term, right?
It was close and enough people might have felt it was time for a change. (That sort of thing happens.)

I'm so sorry.

10. Something like that.
I'm feeling like I personally let Senator Kerry down over this. He spent part of his weekend trying to motivate supporters. Where was I today? Not at the polls like I should have been. I read that Baines was out in front and I didn't go.

11. Honey, you can't feel like that.
It happens. The classic line in this is: "The people have spoken, the bastards." It looks like the Dems are going to have an interesting night with some wins and some losses. This is just politics. We have to take what positives we can from the election and see if we can improve on them.

In Mayor Baines' case, it just might have been a general feeling of change. In this case, it wasn't John Kerry's fault, it may have been a mood of the electorate that decided to seek a change.

It's not your fault. You did show up, you did fight. And you will live to fight another day, no matter what happens.

BTW, Ohio is looking awful so far on the Ballot Questions. Sigh!

12. Portsmouth NH voters turn city Blue in Mayor's race
a pickup by the Dems in NH. Portsmouth just went Blue, repeat Portsmouth just went Blue!

(I know it's not Manchester, but all is not lost.)

He's scary looking, but but not quite as bad as Rover.

Well, hopefully he will be a moderate repug and not a neo-con.
