anyone know what this letter is about (Kaine) ?
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 06:32 AM by JI7
from an article on Kaine's victory and references to Bush campaigning for Kilgore. Kilgore camp mentions some letter Kaine had Kerry write to get him support. i'm assuming it's when Kaine asked Kerry to raise money for him and get others to support him.but this mentions something at the end of the campaign so it could be different.

but it doesn't make much sense since Kilgore camp claims they got a better deal because they got the Pres. so even though Kaine won Kilgore got a better deal because Bush supported him and Kerry supported Kaine ? huh ?

<Mr. Kaine's aides said they were pleased with Mr. Bush's entry into the race. "Can someone tell me where to send the thank-you note?" said Mo Elleithee, his communications director. "The president fired up our base."

But Tucker Martin, a spokesman for the Kilgore campaign, pointed out that the Kaine camp had Senator John Kerry write a letter to Democrats at the end of the campaign. "They ended up with John Kerry, we ended up with the president," he said. "We got a better deal." >

1. He probably means this one - it was posted on the thread

with the NJ one. An interesting aspect of using the email list in a southern state is that it goes very late in the campaign ONLY to Kerry's previous supporters - So it helps, but can't hurt in the Northern - most Southern state. (because pro- Kaine, anti-Kerry people likely won't see it)

2. thanks, nice to see Kaine asked him to do it
i wonder what their private conversation is like. Kerry is pretty understanding when it comes to southern candidates need to distance themselves from the "mass liberal" in order to win.

4. Nonsense
they are just talking out of both sides of their mouths. We received the letter from Kerry on Monday. I have no idea how big Kery's list is here in Virginia. will say this though the race was to close to call on Monday with Kaine with about a 2% lead, he won by almost 6%, so to me that says Kerry's last reminder helped. Bush just put another big nail in Kilgore's coffin.

Also the Dems running for Lt. Gov. and Atty. Gen. did exceedingly well. They both got within 1% of winning. As far as I can tell through the site I was checking vote tallies from, the Atty. Gen. is still to close to call. These races were a shocker, it wasn't suppose to be that close.

We got the Real Deal. :patriot:

5. I'm surprised they even brought it up
You can never really tell how much anything factored into the results - but seeing that they lost big, when it was considered close up to the election, if either of these things made an impact - it was negative for Bush or positive for Kerry.

Comparing the letters to NJ and VA - they are tailoring to the culture in each state. Do you think the Kerry letter may have motivated some of the more liberal VA voters to vote? (or possibly the combination of Bush's presence and Kerry's letter.)

6. Of course, why the Dems picked Leslie Byrne, I don't know
I wanted that "Chap" guy (David Ashe had endorsed him). I think he would have beaten Bolling by the same margin as Kaine over Kilgore. Bolling is a total right winger and Byrne was just too liberal for the state. I feel (am I like a Deaniac now?) vindicated in who I voted for in the primary.

I just checked pilotonline.com and it said the AG race was still too close to call. McDonnell is unfortunately totally in bed with Pat Robertson, and the first piece of mail I received from him was on gay marriage (how dumb is that -- that's SOOO 2004). But perhaps this is where those Diebold, no paper trail machines will come in handy . . .
here's hoping Deed (or is his name Creed?) can pull out a squeaker! (By the way, did you receive an e-mail from JK specifically trying to help Deed? That was extra nice of him, and I hope it works out).

In regards to JK's e-mails I think they were excellent because they were intelligently targeted, instead of phone calls, TV ads, radio ads, which I think a lot of people ignore. People in Virginia who supported John Kerry last year are going to be thrilled to get an e-mail from JK, and feel extra motivated to vote. This is just my humble opinion.
