Did anyone here see the PBS Newshour?
Edited on Fri Nov-11-05 10:40 PM by YvonneCa
Dan Bartlett was interviewed by Ray Suarez and he referred to the president's plan in Iraq as 'The Way Forward'. I almost fell off my chair! He stole those words from the title of John Kerry's Georgetown speech. I just emailed the Newshour and attached a copy of Kerry's speech.

1. Whoa!
What's the e-mail address? I think a bunch of us should write. Bush has been literally ripping off ideas on Iraq from Kerry all along (then botching them and then whining that Kerry has "no ideas"), but ripping off *titles*?

4. You can't be serious.
I'm writing. I hate that shit.
I'm so sick of bush* and his lies today, I could just scream.
And to slam Sen Kerry on Veterans Day. Then steal from him?
Fucking bastard. I hate that little creep.
I'm writing.

5. I know. That was the worst.
Bush and his crowd prance around declaring how much they honor veterans, and then they hold that clambake in New York and devote it entirely to bashing a decorated veteran (except for letting John McCain out to bash Michael Moore). :eyes: They can't have it both ways.

6. Does this work? I didn't see the interview.
Amazing.

George bush* had the gall to use Veteran's Day to promote his warmongering, and attempted to portray the United States Congress as complicit in his evil plan. That was bad.

Then, despite his questionable service, he had the nerve to attack Senator Kerry, a decorated Vietnam vet, ON VETERANS DAY in his 'speech'. That was worse.

But, God Almighty, when I heard that Dan Bartlett, just a few hours later on Newshour, used Senator Kerry's own words and slapped them on the failed bush* Iraq plan, well, that was just...well...words fail.

bush*'s plan is 'The Way FORWARD'?

HE STOLE THE DAMN TITLE. Senator Kerry has a real plan for bringing our troops home. bush*'s 'plan' is more of the same old b.s. we've been hearing from him since Rummy said we'd be out in a couple weeks.

Check this.

I'm sick of this administration's thievery. Will you please report this REAL news? You’re PBS. We count on you.

7. I sent Bush's words in 2002
Along with outrage at using the "Way Forward", I sent a list of what Bush really said in 2002.

Today, George Bush had the audacity to accuse Democrats and war critics of rewriting history, saying “When I made the decision to remove Saddam Hussein from power, Congress approved it with strong bipartisan support.”

But, again, the only one rewriting history, i.e. LYING, is George W. Bush. His own words, from the fall of 2002:

Sept 7, 2002

Its my honor to welcome the Prime Minister back to Camp David. I look forward to spending a good three hours talking to our friend about how to keep the peace.

Video

Sept 10, 2002

“I'll make the case of how I think we ought to proceed, on how we work together to keep the peace.”

Video

Sept 19, 2002

“I am sending suggested language for a resolution. I want -- I've asked for Congress' support to enable the administration to keep the peace…If you want to keep the peace, you've got to have the authorization to use force. But it's -- this will be -- this is a chance for Congress to indicate support. It's a chance for Congress to say, we support the administration's ability to keep the peace. That's what this is all about.”

Video

Sept 23, 2002

“I believe we can achieve peace. Oh, I know the kids hear all the war rhetoric and tough talk, and that's necessary to send a message.”

Video

Sept 27, 2002

“I'm willing to give peace a chance to work… People who are willing to work with us to send a clear message to the world, a unified message, a strong resolution which defines our vision for peace… I want you to know that behind the rhetoric of war is a deep desire for peace.”

Remarks

Sept 28, 2002

“I want to thank members of both political parties in the Congress for working on a strong statement of resolve that the world will see. Members of both political parties have worked together with the -- with members of my staff, to develop a statement that shows our determination and our desire to keep the peace<”

Remarks

Oct 7, 2002

“Approving this resolution does not mean that military action is imminent or unavoidable. The resolution will tell the United Nations, and all nations, that America speaks with one voice.”

8. Did Bartlett seem to think it was an actual title?
I mean, did he use the phrase in a casual way, like "The way forward in Iraq is to..." or was it more like, "That's why President Bush has proposed The Way Forward, his new plan..."?

It felt awfully good to write it, though.
I really hate what bush* did today. It was despicable.

10. Also try Media Matters, especially if News Hour is unresponsive.
Just a thought.

12. How utterly despicable.
Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 02:18 AM by Firespirit
This all makes my blood boil. I deliberately ignored *'s speech -- Veterans' Day was my birthday and I didn't want to spoil it by listening to that crap. But now that it's officially over, I can deal.

:nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

Do they have NO INTEGRITY AND ETHICS WHATSOEVER?? I gotta say it surprised me to hear that he would attack a decorated veteran on Veterans' Day. I certainly expected them to suck up to veterans bigtime and whitewash the truth, but this little piece of malice actually surprised me. No doubt this is part of their "new offensive" that they threatened last week. Well, it's offensive all right, but they're thoroughly deluded if they think it'll improve things for them. Their credibility is shot to hell and trashing their former and current political opponent will only make people think of what could have been. I see from another post that it is in fact backfiring. Idiots. This is a sign of desperate men -- they panic and do completely idiotic things.

Screw them.

//Edit to use words other than "utterly" in the text. :P

13. Actually I was going to write about last night's broadcast
But I have good news to report. The top story was * coming out fighting about being accused of lying about the war (what we read yesterday). Then, they showed a picture of Kerry and his statement in rebuttal. I love it when that happens! Our shadow president!

Okay, my bad but I fast forwarded through Bartlett and erased the broadcast, so I can't comment on that remark. The Way Forward isn't copyrighted or anything. But I guess I would have to hear it to know for sure if he was ripping Kerry off or not.

14. Thank you for reminding me to stay positive...
...you are absolutely right. It IS good news that it was the lead on Newshour, and that they mentioned Kerry. That is a BIG move in the right direction. Maybe I over-reacted to the words "the way forward". I agree it's not copyrighted. I think what angered me so much was that they have NO plan forward themselves, and when John Kerry provides one (and calls it The Path Forward) this administration...once again...thinks they can fix this mess by using similar phrasing, WITHOUT any real plan or program to go with it. Our troops NEED a real plan. Kerry has put it out there and the media won't even cover it. x(

By the way, John Kerry Group, I feel much better today. :) It always does my heart good to see I'm not alone in this.:patriot:
