About 2008 polls and what they represent
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/2005/Democrats%202008.htm

Survey of 326 Democrats Likely Voters

November 8, 2005

Election 2008

Democrats
Clinton 43%
Gore 14%
Edwards 13%
Kerry 10%

Election 2008

Democrats

(w/o Clinton & Gore)
Kerry 38%
Edwards 28%
Biden 6%
Clark 6%
Richardson 5%

I have seen a few posts on GD/GDP about 08 polls that show Kerry 4th behind Clinton, Gore (who cares he will not run), and Edwards.

I found these posts highly interesting for a variety of reasons:

- At this point of time, these posts represent only one thing: name recognition. Most people who answer these post have never heard Hillary speak. They react to the name Clinton (I would hope that the question actually says Hillary Clinton - If now, who knows how many people think Bill).

- These polls, given the MOE, show in fact that Gore, Kerry, and Edwards are tied for second position. An other good sign that we are talking about name recognition. Who knows where Lieberman would come of his name was in the list.

- I think it becomes even more painfully obvious that we are talking about name recognition whan you take Clinton and Gore of the table (38 % say Kerry, 28 % say Edwards, and then nobody is above 10 %, probably because people do not know them).

So have fun with these polls, but dont take them seriously. If the 2002 polls had been right, Lieberman would be president.

1. I saw one poll and it was done by NBC/WJ. Very suspect as
far as I'm concerned. NBC IMO, has decided to down play or outright ignore Kerry. This poll just reinforces that opinion. Also, when was this poll conducted, it looks like they polled Washington insiders and blogs. Gore, he was news about a month ago, Edwards, he and the poverty issue (not to ignore his important work on behalf of the poor) was popular about a month ago after Katrina. Actually, this sounded like nothing more than a popularity poll. Look who was on the Republican side.

2. I saw it as well - it is the same thing as the Rasmussen one
Gore, Edwards, and Kerry are tied, in fact. They can ignore the MOE as long as they want. Statistic laws are not going to disappear for that.

Or should we say President Lieberman??

3. That poll without Clinton and Gore is interesting
I'd never seen one of those before. I seriously doubt Gore will run, although I would be satisfied with another Gore candidacy. Clinton is the big threat to Kerry's primary hopes, but nobody is sure if she'll run. I expect that if she was planning to, she'd be spending at least a little time or money in Iowa or New Hampshire. There's a lot of speculation but little hard evidence to support any of it.
