3. Okay, I can't diss him too much for wearing biking gear.
(I'll give him a pass on this, but ONLY on this.) I ride a good bit myself so I'm used to seeing people in silly looking biking clothes including my dad who is an avid biker and a few years older than John Kerry. Granted, I'd rather see Senator Kerry in biking gear than *, but I can't rag him too much for this one.

4. Too bad he didn't do this last year - it would have taken the wind
out of the RW's use of Kerry windsurfing and biking in spandex biking shorts. At least Kerry looked athletic and fit in his pictures.(I quess a minor consolation is that only one of the candidates seems to have the ability to be happy and at peace with himself.)

But, I would rather criticize him for invading countries.

13. And he really does these activities
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 03:56 PM by FreedomAngel82
Kerry is an avid sportsman and Bush only seems to bike ride and run. How boring is that? When do we ever see Bush doing anything other than photo-op's like the throwing of the softball thing? It was so immature when people said Kerry was only doing things for photo-op's. :eyes: But yet Bush bike riding and running is him just doing his thing. Heh.

16. Okay, viewing this pictures as a cynical reporter or pundit
The team pictures are great -- hockey and baseball. The biking outfit -- not so presidential. So in '08, if the Senator runs for prez, he needs to do team sports and rugged hiking (I read about him wanting to climb up some mountain in Switzerland, so this isn't farfetched). They look cool and don't require equipment that may look silly outside the context of the sport.

And then, using commandos and special secret service doubles, Kerry should incognito go and do what he loves -- the windsurfing and biking and snowboarding.

17. They really should have used the hockey footage more

It was a charity game. The fact that Kerry actually knew what he was doing and could skate well and even make a goal was cool. The biking outfit is really no different than the shorts Bush wore and the one here probably better than the spandex ones.

I thought in one of the articles talking about taking risks with things like windsurfing, he said he didn't go mountain climbing or parachute jumping and talked about prefering things where he is in control. I think windsurfing became a problem more when the press declared it a problem. Go back and look at the photo - the sun, the waves and the ride look great. If Bush could have done this, Matthews in particular would be speaking of him as being the most athletic President ever, a good example for our kids - getting both exercise and relaxation at the same time. I mean seriously when did clearing brush suddenly become the height of manliness.

10. Alright, guys, I think this is a below the belt attack!
The one thing I know that * and Kerry, if somehow stuck in a room together, could have talked about last year with no controversy was the fact that the campaign trail was badly impacting their health. Kerry, in that Rolling Stone interview, said that he was in the worst shape of his life. * gained, I think, nearly 20 pounds over the year.

I think the mistake last year was the Kerry campaign's underestimation of image. Biking correctly and going windsurfing may be perfectly legitimate sports to help Kerry relax, but the cameras should have been kept AWAY. Maybe Kerry should have gone hiking instead -- that's all American. But a teeny tiny bit of the problem with that is Kerry is very proud of his athletic achievements, and just didn't see that his praiseworthy activities didn't have the right effects on the television. If he gives it another go, he's going to have to pay attention to image, and think of active things THAT HE LIKES DOING for the cameras, and save the more extreme fun stuff -- snowboarding and windsurfing -- for private moments, just like he did with making out with Teresa.

11. I agree.
I don't care what the Sen. Does to relax. It's not my business. I just don't want the press there. I didn't care that he windsurfed off of Nantucket a year ago August. I did care that the press was there. The pics were not good. I know the sport is not elitist and I know people who make anice living ferrying people around for sports like that in NH. But the pics were not good. (Life is unfair sometimes.)

Is they were claiming he was just doing it for photo-op's. :eyes: If they just took the time to look for theirselves about Kerry they would know he really enjoyed doing these things. But of course that darn liberal press was at it again. :sarcasm: :eyes:

15. Okay, this is not PC, but I have referred to bikers as "bone butts"...
just in fun. You know, most bicyclists are on the thin side and they tend to ride with their backsides up in the air.

Mr. President, you sir, are no bone butt.
