some on DU would rather vote for right wing Hagel than Kerry
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 10:14 PM by JI7
all based on a few things Hagel said. never mind that HAgel hasn't shown much support for true change in policy through the Senate by supporting Kerry and other Dems.

and Hagel is saying nothing that most Dems have already been saying for YEARS.

i'm convinced that some hope HAgel does win just so they can feel they are sticking it to the Dems. kind of like Nader and how he wanted BUsh to win.

btw, i do alert these and ask that the person be banned as they should not be on here.

1. For God's sake...
Hagel allowed himself to be charmed by a slickly polished performance of Alito's.

He still has my respect for daring to challenge Bush in the IWR, but doing stuff like this-- letting himself be taken in by a nominee's WORDS rather than his ACTIONS-- for what is very likely a PHONY "confirmation conversion"-- is sorely testing that respect. Sorely.

2. it's no surprise HAgel would like Alito
Hagel is very conservative. he is far more conservative than McCAin is. McCain is a whore but HAgel is just a right winger.

i don't think he was fooled by Alito at all. he knows what Alito is about and it's what he wants.

3. I don't believe that.
Not that it's impossible, but it's also likely somebody's just trying to be inflammatory.

4. These people need to be ignored. What are they doing on a
blog for Democrats anyway? Let them vote for Hagel. They will get what they deserve.

5. I saw them too. Hillary's thread has been blocked
but it seems these posts concerning Kerry stay posted.

6. Hagel praise all over
Raw Story, The Nation, TPM, Plus other non-Dem stories today of all days. No links though. I'll be damned if I do that.

8. Not that I saw
Huffington was the only blog I went to that had a kick-ass Dem headline. Same as when I went looking for swift boat quotes back in August of last year. The things that ought to be on liberal blogs, but aren't, is pretty telling of what's wrong with this party too.

9. Here's his stand on the issues (not just Iraq)
I'll pass on Mr. Hagel, thank you very much! Looks like he's just a smidge to the left of Pat Robertson on most issues.

10. Did you see him on Cspan Sunday?
I think it was on Q&A. I was not impressed by him as a person. Politics aside--he doesn't seem particularly bright or articulate. Not presidential material. I see nothing notable to recommend him.

I'd much rather have the distinguished Jr. Senator from MA! ;)

11. I can almost guarantee
that no Democrat who wants to vote for him watches C-SPAN.

You can usually tell from the way people post whether they've seen a certain politician in their element or not. I've been watching Hagel in the Senate for a while now, and I'm convinced he just has nothing to offer at the national level.

13. The good news is that Hagel will never make it Thur the Republican
Edited on Wed Nov-16-05 02:19 PM by Mass
primary.

The bad news is that, if he does, he is a serious candidate:
- a real rags-to-wealth story: head of family at 16, poor, went to Nam at 18 with his brother, got back, was wounded, went back and went to college, went up from there to CEO of ESS and senator,
- class act in the case of Cleland (he threatened Shambles to put his own ads in GA against him if he did not withdraw the Bin Laden ads), - conservative record but not a crazy conservative, somewhat pro-environment, ...

There would be a lot of swing votes that would go with him, so maybe, he could win even without using his voting machines.

I would not vote for him (way too conservative for me), but he is one of the few Reps that I find somewhat acceptable.

12. No surprise
They have such a distored opinion of Kerry that to some anyone looks better.

They already claim to be the more liberal wing of the party, yet prefer a number of Democrats with a more moderate record than Kerry's.

At least Hagel does look preferable to many of the other Republicans out there, but there is no way he'd be preferable over Kerry to any Democrat who has any understanding of the positions of the two.
