How about a frivolous thread to lighten the mood?
Most everyone here has to have Senator Kerry on the brain for a good portion of the day. It's Kerry, Kerry, Kerry. We post support, discuss legislation, watch C-Span, fight bashers, share photos and stories and so on.

So how many Kerrycrats have had it carry over into sleep with Kerrydreams?

I have, but nothing very interesting. Mostly I have Shrub nightmares.

1. For the past three nights
Edited on Wed Nov-16-05 07:00 AM by Island Blue
Kerry has either been in or mentioned in my dreams. Sadly, none of them have been vivid enough or exciting enough for me to remember. I think I must have the upcoming Boston trip on my brain.

The only memorable Kerry dream I've had happened this past summer. I posted about it then, so I'll spare everyone the details (it's still very vivid though.) It involved John Edwards doing the Hope is on the Way Dance. JK and Cam Kerry were also in it.

3. I have boring dreams.
I had them last year, but they were your basic anxiety dreams. (Boring! I would get the 'work harder' thing going on and dream I was being told to do more. It invoked my ever present Catholic guilt. Sigh!) I want to hav emore, ahm, vivid dreams. That would be nice. (I am obviously boring and should become a tax accountant, sigh!)

5. Me neither.
Not good ones, but mine usually involve some conspiracy or adventure where I'm being pursued by bad guys. Lots of shooting and running. Once JK was in of them, but he was just standing on a sidewalk as I ran by. I may have said something like "duck Senator!"

6. Dream 1: The Presidential Fly-fishing Contest
I once wrote up 3 of them for another group I was on, so I'll post them here too.

Dream 1: The Presidential Fly-fishing Contest

I had this dream maybe a month after the election. I dreamed that there was some kind of event like a presidential debate, except that it was a fly-fishing contest. George Bush was incredibly skilled at casting the line, and in the days leading up to this, the media kept going on and on about how his ability to cast a fly-fishing line was a sign of his poise and strength and resolve. Don't ask how I knew this -- I don't remember dreaming about reading piles of newspaper articles or watching the talking heads on TV, but somehow I knew they had been saying this and publishing lots of flattering pictures of Bush fly-fishing. They also said that no one could be taken seriously as a contender for the presidency if he didn't have the same level of skill.

So Kerry practiced for 20 hours over a period of about three days, until he could cast the line flawlessly. There was some sort of photo-op event where he demonstrated his skill, and afterwards the papers were full of comments about how Kerry was just showing off again and that this was more evidence that he's nothing but an egomaniac.

Not that I'm bitter about the media coverage of the campaign or anything. :)

I liked this dream, though, because it's so easy to imagine Kerry practicing for 20 hours to get it right. You know that's just what he would do.

7. Dream 2: The Treasure Hunt Game
This dream made me cry. I had it sometime after the campaign, after I read a rant on someone's blog about how Democrats aren't skilled campaigners like Republicans. The blogger noted that at some campus event, the Democrats showed up late and set up a table with a few crappy pamphlets, while the Republicans were on-time and peppy, with lots of colorful materials and a high-energy spirit. (I've noticed this, BTW -- we Dems need to do something about the tendency to have crappy materials and poor organization.) He said the Republicans set up carnival-style games like "Throw a cream pie at Kerry" with one of those large rubber Kerry dolls.

The night after I read that, I dreamed that Kerry had designed a game for people to play, too, to appeal to potential supporters. It was large and complex. It was based on the idea of a treasure hunt, and there were these small islands -- like at Disneyland, tiny artificial islands -- with water between them, and you would follow clues to look for treasure. People would work together in small teams. And you'd get a map, but there were a lot of puzzles you had to solve too. For part of it, you would ride on horses to get around on these little islands. The instructions had a section describing the different kinds of horses and how to pick one, and I especially remember that it reassured people that even if they weren't experienced riders, they shouldn't be afraid, and that it would be fun. In the dream, I talked with someone who knew about the inner workings of the campaign, and he said, "Kerry worked really hard on that part. He really wanted people to enjoy the horses."

That was the whole dream, but when I woke up from it, it made me cry. One aspect was the comparison between the Republicans, trying to appeal to people with games that are based on mockery and juvenile attacks, and the way that the Kerry campaign was about people working together, solving problems together and discovering things -- discovering possibilities for a better future. But mostly I was crying because of the comment that campaign staffer had made, about how Kerry really wanted people not to be afraid and to enjoy the horses.

I think the horses represented feeling alive, feeling passionately involved in working for change in this country, and the part about not being afraid meant that we should go ahead and be brave and love our country and act on our love, and not let fear stop us. So what made me cry was thinking that that was what Kerry and the Kerry/Edwards campaign overall were asking people to do last summer, and that so many people preferred to vote for fear and hatefulness instead.

8. Dream 3. The Resignation Ceremony
I had this dream not long after the Inauguration, and I think it was my subconscious mind trying to reassure me.

I dreamed I was watching a brief documentary that featured George Bush. Fortunately, I didn't have to look at him; they just had his voice making comments as they showed relevant footage. The connection between his comments and the footage was deliciously ironic. It was right before his inauguration, but in my dream, there was another ceremony first in which Kerry had to formally give up his claim to the presidency. Kind of like conceding, but this was a whole concession ceremony that had to happen before Bush could be inaugurated. They were showing the preparations for that ceremony, and as they were hoisting up a giant flag, you could hear Bush on voiceover saying smugly, "Yes, I think that in recent years, there *has* been more attention paid to my opponents after the election, and I'd like to think that I have something to do with that." God only knows what he meant, but I was practically cracking up, thinking yeah, the reason people pay more attention to the election losers *does* have something to do with Bush, and with buyer's remorse. But he seemed to think it reflected well on him.

Then Bush was saying, "You know, I know some things about how this kind of thing should be done. In Belarus, they really have it down. For example, you have to hoist the flag up high, because if you put it within reach, people will just try to grab onto it." Just then they showed a close-up of the flag, and I really wished I could grab the corner of it, even though I was watching on TV. I felt that if I could just touch the corner of it, somehow I could make *it* -- the flag -- feel better. Then Bush said, "So that's all that's left to do: the resignation of John Kerry." And just then the camera did an extreme close-up on the flag so that it just filled the screen and then froze, and you could see that the flag was upside down. I knew somehow that they were going to turn it right side up, that this had something to do with the kind of block-and-tackle that they were using to get this huge flag raised up, but the camera just froze on the image of the upside-down flag and held it while Bush was talking.

When I woke up, I was almost cracking up, because it was very clear to me that the camera guys for that documentary were on our side -- they had timed the visual images perfectly to undercut what Bush was saying. It felt as if Bush *thought* he was in control, but not only was the documentary maker on our side, but also Bush couldn't completely take control until he got Kerry to resign. And somehow I felt that even though JK would go through this ceremony, it wouldn't be the end of it; on some level, he was never going to give up, and so I woke up feeling a lot better.

12. It's a rally photo.
Just upped the contrast, lightened the photo and added a little bit of yellow tint before adding the words. He was actually standing on a stage with those clouds in the background and his arms raised. I thought it was the most extraordinary photo: John Kerry, Rainmaker! LOL!
