Kerry and Richardson
An odd bit from a news article. http://www.shns.com/shns/g_index2.cfm?action=detail&pk=RICHARDSON-11-16-05

"If they are saying that I have undecidedly, unequivocally said I'm running, they are wrong," said Richardson, who turned 58 Tuesday.

In his book, Richardson describes a conversation he had with Sen. John Kerry, the Massachusetts Democrat and failed 2004 presidential candidate.

"Near the end of our conversation, Kerry threw me an unexpected curve: 'Do you want to be president?' 'Maybe someday,' I said."

I find it intriguing, but the article doesn't say what the context of the conversation was. Maybe a potential running mate interview? In which case that makes it a very interesting question. Anyone else? Or is it just me? I am harboring a grudge against Richardson, so maybe I'm reading too much into it.

1. Maybe it's trying to imply
JK thinks Richardson can be POTUS?

I dunno. Richardson annoys me, too, so I'm very happy just to think of it as a name-drop.

2. that's interesting...
I thought Richardson would have been a good choice for VP, and advocated for that here at DU.

I'm not a fan of his - but a good case can be made for choosing him. I really felt the Dems needed to abandon the South and go with a midwest/western strategy - and Richardson has a few things in his favor. He had the foreign policy creds to go with Kerry's Iraq plan at the time, having been a former Ambassador to the UN, with the connections implied there. He would have brought in the Hispanic vote, giving us NM and possibly putting CO and Ariz in serious play.

There is also a burgeoning Hispanic presence throughout the midwest, not to mention that Latinos are 2nd largest minority now and the fastest growing one also. I think too many Democrats take the Hispanic vote for granted - and I feel that's a huge mistake. It's the main reason I supported Simon Rosenberg for DNC chair - because of his political outreach with Hispanic groups.

I would really like to have been a fly on the wall for the decision on choosing Edwards. I think that was a mistake by the Kerry campaign - far bigger than the swift boaters or the "I voted for it before I voted against it" crap that's always cited by the Kerry haters.

I wonder if Richardson really was considered by Kerry?

4. I agree with paulk, focus more on western
part of our Country. I really was hoping he would have picked Richardson or Warner, but past history. Onward to winning every precinct in 2006.

3. I'm going out on limb here because I don't care for Richardson
either, and say Kerry said that wondering why he was so disinterested in making sure the voting systems in his state were functioning and operating fairly.
