Happy day before the day before Thanksgiving.
There's hardly anyone at work today, and thinking that everyone elses' work loads may be light today as well, I'm posting a fun item.

Laurie David was on Morning Sedition this morning, and she mentioned that Sunday's entire Earth to America special is online at http://comedy.aol.com/tcf. It sounds great, so enjoy!

1. our turkey is thawing!
We're having a family dinner of 9-10 people--small by our usual standards (husband has six sibs, but they are more spread out now).
Youngest daughter driving home from Minneapolis today--haven't seen her for three months! I'm feeling really good and looking forward to the holiday.

What is everyone else doing for Thanksgiving?

3. Son's coming from NYC
Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 01:00 PM by whometense
tomorrow afternoon - no idea how long he can stay (it's his big moneymaking season, so he may have gigs over the weekend), but I'm so excited to see him! I really miss him.

We're hosting, and expecting between 9-11 people. Still not sure, but as we always over-cook there will be PLENTY of food. I love Thanksgiving; it's my favorite holiday. Tomorrow is pie baking day. I only make them once a year, so the pies are what my husband looks forward to! :-)

2. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! In honor of the day, a photo of a turkey.

Okay, it's really a photo of a chickenhawk. But one thing for sure, it's fowl!

And this one too:

5. I will be going to my brother's house.
Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 01:55 PM by TayTay
Yeah, he's a RWer, but he can really cook. We will sit down to a small intimate dinner of 35-40. (or so.) I am looking forward to it. I am especially looking forward to asking my brother's father-in-law, who is a big Rethug supporter, "So, how's that war working out for you now? You told me at this time last year that Bush and the Republicans were going to rebuild Washington from the ground up and that the Democrats were irrelevant and powerless for the foreseeable future. Still think that?"

hehehehehehehe

7. I need a good vegetable dish
I'm thinking some kind of mixed vegetable, but no carrots and I'm sort of tired of green beans. Something easy easy and preferably on top of the stove. Any ideas?

Baby's first Thanksgiving and I am fighting with my daughter over pumpkin pie and whipped cream. Yes, dammit, the baby WILL have his first Thanksgiving foods at MY HOUSE, even if it's a sugary dessert, since they're spending the day at her husband's grandmother's. lol. But I get Christmas, must not forget.

8. here's where I go for recipes
www.allrecipes.com

They have everything, sent in by ordinary people, and rated by ordinary people. The whole site is searchable by ingredient.

10. I like that website.
Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 05:06 PM by whometense
This is my favorite recipe site: http://www.epicurious.com/

My kids' favorite Thanksgiving vegetable is (believe it or not) brussels sprouts. I have this amazing recipe - very simple, and wonderful. You wash the sprouts and trim and quarter them. Them saute in 2 Tbsp. butter for 5 minutes, or until they start browning at the edges. Then put in a couple of tablespoons of water, cover, and steam them on medium for 8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

9. Happy Thanksgiving, my American friends!
And after last year in the US I now know what Thanksgiving is really like. :-)
My first and only Thanksgiving in the USA was great!
Here are some pictures from our celebration with Fern, Bob and their family and friends.
