Baseball Scouts for Truth
This thread has nothing to do with JK so hopefully it won't be viewed as anything except what it is, expressing frustration at a twilight zone moment. I don't get the responses. Richardson explained what happened. I feel bad for him. He went through his whole life thinking he'd been drafted by the big league, only to find out it was a mistake in the program for the minor league team he was playing for. Even after that fact is posted, and it was in the original story anyway, people continue to call the man a liar. It's just a very sad display of inhumanity, seems to me. Just makes me so sad.

1. I saw that story in the local paper
It seemed like a minor mistake. He did play for the Cape Cod league, which is often a stepping stoen for the big leagues. (I think Kevin Millar played for the Cape Cod league, for goodness sakes.)

This is just plain dumb. His name was in the minor league program with a notation that he was scouting for the big leagues. It's not Richardson's fault that this error was made. Disgusting.

2. Some may be people like me - who know very little about sports
To me reading the NYT article, it seemed like he had padded his resume. I assumed that if you were drafted, you would have been given an offer - thus there would be no ambiguity. If he would have said scouted, I would assume that this could be really vague.

Either way, I thought they were making a big deal out of nothing. I assume that it hurts most in that he could be seen as untruthful. Could he really have thought he was drafted. (for the baseball impaired, what exactly does it mean to be drafted.)

3. Offers were discussed
He was scouted. When he saw the program, he was convinced there was an official draft decision. He went to college and was injured. It was in the article. Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

"In the summer of 1967, he played for the amateur Cape Cod League's Cotuit (Mass.) Kettleers. The words "Drafted by K.C." appear next to his name on a faded team program, the Journal reported."

4. Thanks -
That actually makes sense then that he would think that.
