I'm starting to think that going on the Ed Schultz Show
may have been Kerry's smartest move so far this season.

Ed (right before 5:00) just played the clip from Face the Nation where JK was talking about how our soldiers shouldn't be forced to do searches in Iraqi homes, and Ed was backing him up 100%. Ed is a loyal guy. If he's in your corner, he is in your corner.

He's not so wild about Dean. And I haven't heard him mention Hillary in a while - but I don't hear a lot of the show, so I just may have missed it.

1. I do too
Ed was the RIGHT CHOICE. He's an uncomplicated, blue-collar guy who doesn't like to play stupid political games like so many of the too-hip pundits out there. He's a solid Dem who doesn't whine about how the party won't officially add a 'Free Mumia' plank in the platform, and most importantly, he's the biggest progressive talk show host. He appeals to mainstream Dems - ie, the ones who matter - rather than the lunatic fringe and the kos crowd. Seeing Ed get 100% behind Kerry really warms my heart and puts all the DU and kos crap in proper perspective.

4. I agree.
Whether you like what he's saying or not, his "straight talk from the heartland" theme is exactly true. He says what he thinks, and you're right that he has no interest in insider "kool kid" DC political games.

When you hear the people who call in to his show it's clear the kind of people he appeals to. People who are sick of being lied to. Reagan democrats. Moderates. Ed's been playing his Kerry promo all the time, too. It's the only one I've heard in a while. If Big Ed accepts Kerry at face value (and so far, so good) the people who listen to his show will too. Best PR Kerry could get.

2. That is great
Also, wasn't Ed suppose to be om armed services radio. A DU post said he and Franken were suppose to be on starting today - if so that would be a sane counter to Limbaugh and Mehlman.

I think anyone hearing Kerry's whole quote will understand what he's saying. I know my kids would have been terrified if soldiers suddenly burst into the house.

3. Yes, he is
Our soldiers need to have alternatives like Ed and even Al Franken to the propaganda Limbaugh bullshit they're force-fed.

6. To be honest, I never really paid much attention to Big Ed until he had
Kerry on the show. Now I'm a regular listener. Ed's great! I love his no bullshit style. And surprisingly, there is quite a bit of chemistry between Big Ed and JK. They sound like two guys discussing sports over a beer. This can only be a good thing for JK, so I agree with you: a very smart move!

7. Who is Ed Schultz? Is he on AAR?
I live in red country. There is NO liberal talk here. Oh, except the right wingers think NPR is liberal so they think everything is "balanced". Don't get me wrong -- I love NPR, and think it's high quality, but is definitely MSM, objective reporting, which is great but sometimes after a long day, I just want to drink a little bit of my own side's kool aid, and I don't have any options (I have dial up, and can't listen to AAR).

8. No, he's not AAR -
He was on the Jones Radio Network, but his show was sold, and I don't know a thing about the radio business. He and Stephanie Miller were both Jones - she still is, but I'm not sure who he's with now.

The Boston progressive talk station carries Stephanie Miller from 9am-noon, and Ed Schultz from 3-6, right after Franken.

9. Okay, I should have stopped whining and just checked his website
His show is here!!!! Yeah!! From Norfolk, VA (850 AM for anyone around here). I'm listening now. But it's only on 3 - 5 PM. Now I wish I had heard Kerry. I can see him appealing to people here. He's not elitist, definitely.
