Unity Thread, Part 3
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 05:08 AM by politicasista
Just wanted to backup ProSense's comment about being Kerry supporters. I know everyone is excited (I am too!) and wants the 411 on JK, Momma T and all the happenings, but this infighting over what should be public/private is not healthy for none of us. I know it's ok to be civil (we all can disagree), but the sniping back and forth is not what Kerry or Momma T would want. Plus, it discourages lurkers or other supporters from posting here.

The JK Group is the largest forum here and as ProSense said:

"Everyone here is doing a wonderful job supporting Kerry and I hope we don't lose sight of that fact."

Peace everyone,

pol

1. Thanks for the perspective pol
I really didn't think this would be such a big deal. At all. I don't understand it. John Kerry does want the blogosphere to get united and Kerrycrats to unify and focus on getting the message out there. I don't think that was ever disputed. As far as real strategy, that's about it. The rest of what he said was the kind of thing people say when they're shooting the shit at the pub over some beers - in other words, nothing you'd put on a public message board. It's just an irrelevant distraction from what he really wanted to tell us, which was fight, fight fight, and get the message out there.

6. Well, WEL, it is good to read that.
I did not expect Kerry to say more than that in a very public meeting with bloggers.

So thank you for sharing.

7. So WEL...I'm DYING to know...
BUT does he know about the Haikus? And some of the 'ways to deal' with the bashers?

Did anyone read him some famous haikus?

And did he blush if they were read?

WEL is exactly right with this. There were some just great moments that were just great moments. This didn't mean that future of the free world depended on it, it just was a few funny moments.

Like for example: WEL, Fire and GLMRGC have 'East Coast' Moms. We are looking out for them (and probably annoying the heck out of them a bit) while they are visiting the fair city of Boston. (We can't help it. Once a Mom always a Mom.)

So, our WEL is having the time of her life, sitting next to Sen. Kerry and listening to him tell some stories and ask some details of each of our fair visitors. The Moms though were fretting over the fact that WEL had to take an exam the next day. Word floated down to the end of the table that WEL had to get up at 4:30 in the morning and get to the airport for a 7:00 am flight back to Illinois. Sen. Kerry got to hear of our concerns for young WEL and asked her about her exam. This was so funny. He looks her right in the eye and asks, "So, what is your exam in?" WEL answers, in a little voice, "Ahm political science." Everyone just laughed at that one. (Honey, you really needed to ask for a note. Can WEL get out of her political science exam? She was busy having a beer with the last Democratic Nominee for President of the US and lost track of time.)

BTW, I was thrilled to hear that you did well on this exam. Especially after Sen. Kerry expressed his concern that to you that you do well on this test. This East Coast Mom is highly relieved to hear that it went well.

14. It's cute that Senator Kerry was concerned about the exam
but, if you were certain your teacher was likely a Democrat - you might have been able to name drop, as in " last evening Senator Kerry, while drinking a beer with me and other Kerry bloggers, said .....".

2. Thanks, Sista!
It's not like we have some huge "secret situation" going on. That's being blown out of proportion. We all just ate, drank, were merry, and "shot the shit" so to speak. We had fun talking and sharing stories about our lives and what brought us together as supporters. It was fun.

5. I'll second that opinion!
:hi: everybody!

I'll post a thread soon (hopefully tonight) with a more detailed description of my take on the event, but Vektor just summed it up pretty well. Everything great that I've previously only believed to be true about JK, I now know to be true. What an incredible human being. And Teresa too - just amazing.

I'm still overwhelmed!

10. I wholeheartedly agree, Politcasista. Unity is priority #1!!
I couldn't be in Boston, as I needed to be with my family. I was where I should be and have no regrets for missing the pub scene, even if it was an absolute blast and a unique experience for all of you. The thing is, ever since reading about when JK opened the card, and how you explained to him about "us", I just found that SO empowering. Because here is the thing: if I do ever have the honor to meet the senator I can now say "I am one of the "bloggers" from DemocraticUnderground -- you spent some time with some of my friends in Boston on your b-day" and he will know immediately who I am. This is big, and whether I missed out on any funny quips he made is irrelevant to the fact that we're now on the map. All of us were there, and I encourage any bloggers who were in Boston but haven't joined this forum yet to do so, so that we can say hello and can get to know you, too.

Yes, I went through about 5 minutes of "poor me", I'm not in the know. But I realize that is losing sight of what was gained by all of you representing us on 12/11/05 (a day that we should always remember). Now JK knows he has real support from all kinds of people from all over the country, and that we are listening. That's one hell of a present for him. And StoryTeller was yet another gift to us -- another newbie with a unique voice who can help us get to where we ultimately want to go -- John Kerry in the WH.

12. You're right Beachmom
JK was definitely overwhelmed by the card. I don't think he would have come down to the pub if it had only been the 15 or so of us there who had signed it. He came down because so many more people who couldn't be in Boston had also signed it. It really did mean a lot to him, and those of us who were lucky enough to be there were honored to represent everyone who could not make it.

13. Excellent point!
"I am one of the "bloggers" from the DU Kerry Group---you spent some time with some of my friends..."

Besides, I'm more interested in saying this a few years down the road: President Kerry; whether or not I ever get to actually meet him. (Although, I still would give anything to do so.)

Warm fuzzies from that statement is why all the snow is suddenly melting from Nebraska outward. Thanks, Beachmom. :)

16. Kerry supporters
Are far and wide across the blogosphere and long loved by JK. This group is one cog in the wheel. I've spent many months not only sharing JK news that is frequently unvailable elsewhere, but also discussing blog strategy with certain people.

I stepped out on a limb yesterday to help everyone by creating a safe secure environment to discuss things that should not be discussed here. The insinuations surrounding my efforts were very disheartening. My effort is bring supporters and bloggers together across the blogosphere because there is big need for everyone to work together and stay on message.

Yes, PS, everyone here is doing do a wonderful job and so are others. Wouldn't it be nice to have more solidarity across the blogosphere and have this group grow here through the benefit of contact with others through a different outlet.

18. Okay, I think I'll take the liberty to nip this whole thing in the bud
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 03:21 PM by beachmom
I took a look at the original thread and realized the whole thing is my fault. I'm the one who started this whole "let's make an e-mail list" business, which led you, KG, to mention the private forum, and so on and so forth. The truth of the matter was I didn't know what I was talking about since I wasn't there, and now that I know it was an off the record conversation, the only place it should go is in the air and up the rafters of that pub. It's done. Finito. Think of the world before tape recorders, computers, TV cameras, and such and that is the world that fabulous fun evening belongs in. I am at peace with that, and since the whole thing flew from my fingers originally, maybe we can all just put it to rest.

Having said all that, thank you KG for creating the private forum because I think it will definitely have a future use for such things as strategy and maybe info you would like to share but not here or on your blog. And I think I remember Mass talking about wanting a forum to discuss non-Kerry related things but not in DU where civility is not often the norm. So that's the positive thing to come out of this whole fiasco I created. I read your blog every day (which makes a remarkable contribution to our cause), KG, and saw the comments out there and in here, and I can tell you there is no way that nice Kerry blogger was intentionally kept out of the loop. She simply hadn't found the Kerry forum, and therefore couldn't tell Tay Tay "I'm here". That's all it was, and I would say that Kerry supporters all over the country and the internet are a remarkably united bunch.

And, finally, I completely trust the Boston folks to put out there what they feel they can, and keep to themselves, what they cannot. It seems to me the message from JK can be summarized as follows: "Thanks for the b-day card, thank you so much for your support and effort on my behalf, and keep fighting for the truth and getting our message out". Let me know if I've left anything out. How's that for not having even been there!

19. No one was deliberately left out
That's a really heinous accusation to make (not you, I know). I mean, Jesus, this whole thing started when TayTay innocuously posted a blurb on the Kerry forum: "Hey Massholes, there's a fundraiser for Senator Kerry on his birthday, who wants to go?" Vektor out in California decided she was going to make a weekend trip out of it and go. I discovered that it was a Sunday night and realized I could fly out before my finals. And so on and so on. It was a beautiful thing that just came together wonderfully, and those who went were those who had the opportunity to go. NEVER was it implied that only a certain number of people could attend or that we were going to be these big attractions at the party. Jesus, when I bought my ticket, I was hoping I'd be lucky enough to get a brief handshake. What was subsequently organized was done so around - weirdly enough - those of us who knew we were going. TayTay worked with the list of names she had. End of story.

At any rate, this was a great trip, and I look forward to posting more about it tonight once my final exam is finished. John Kerry was impressed and touched by the show of nationwide support he saw in us, and in the even greater numbers we represent. It was a beautiful thing, and I'd hate to see anyone's ego get in the way of that.
