1. Using speech on Corzine to underline the issues
Nice speech and also drawing a liberal agenda at the same time.

2. "I almost envy him..." n/t
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 02:00 PM by globalvillage
edit - Sorry, that was unclear. Sen Kerry said he almost envies Corzine because of the ineffectiveness of Washington politics today, and the opportunity that Corzine has to lead NJ.

3. Which executive branch job can Kerry want?
If he wanted the equivilent job to Corzine's I assume he could get it?

Interesting question. I was wondering the same thing at the beginning
of the year.

I think he is aiming at something larger.

4. I was distracted at that point
but that does not surprise me.

For people like Kerry, who want things to happen, it must be incredibly frustrating to be in the Senate nowadays, where nothing can be done and where it seems that personal advantages mean more than working together for most Republicans and some Democrats even.

11. maybe a little tired
so many social events lately, after all!

No rest for the weary, either--looks like they are going to have to be in session all weekend.

18. Ha, sorry.
DiFi and Byrd have gotten up to address the NY Times article (http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051216/ZNYT03/512160440). That's why DiFi was flipping through a newspaper during JK's comments.

This is a pretty big deal. She said it seems like 8 or so Senators knew this was going on, and didn't tell the rest of the Intel. or Judiciary committees what was going on? Madness.

Oh, and Senator Byrd just said "FIE ON THE ADMINISTRATION," which was kind of cool.

I'll keep watching and post as necessary.

Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 02:45 PM by globalvillage
With his copy of the Constitution and his outrage. This is the time for it, that's for sure.
DiFi was good, too.

edit because Sen Byrd deserves to have his name spelled correctly.

21. Feinstein's speech...
... was really great, and I hope much will come from it later. And I think it's good she is the one to have given it, she cannot be accused of being one the extreme liberal "fringe". And a small correction, she did not say that 8 senators knew about this, but that 8 in Congress. She was referring to the heads and leading members in the 2 intelligence + 2 judicial (I assume) committees.

I think Spector is the Chairman, and Intelligence is Rockefeller and Roberts.

24. That's not a small correction, LOL!
I heard that wrong, so thanks for setting me straight! (It did seem pretty bizarre that THAT many people on her committee would know without her and Specter having any idea what was going on.) And yes, she doesn't strike anybody as somebody who comes up with wacky conspiracy theories, so I am really hoping she gets the chance to bring more attention to this. (And she's my Senator, yay!)

31. Thanks for the welcome everybody, also...
... i might have been wrong in my comment about the judiciary committee, might have been just the two leaders of the two intelligence committees as they changed during the 3 years or so this has been going on. Also heard a comment that Rockefeller was told AFTER the fact and he did register his strong disagreement. Nobody could obviously talk about this in the open, so the various comments about the traitorous senators, etc. that knew are silly.

14. He did
and at the risk of being throw off this forum permanently, his hair for the first time I can think of wasn't perfect - it was standing up in the back. He looked like he had a cold and took a short nap in his office.

But what he said was extremely good and as others said did show his and Corzine's values.

Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 04:25 PM by ProSense
Maybe he's been running around.

There I was cheering on the statement, focusing on his hair, watching his mannerisms as he spoke, and even noticing Feinstein when she moved in behind him, sat down and began reading; all that without missing a word of what he said.

I paused in thought for a moment at the executive mention, but I got it. Kerry on.

... the news conference where Corzine's replacement (Menedez?) was introduced? Lautenberg kept looking at him with a fatherly smile on his face, proud & protective fatherly smile. It was sweet and funny.

6. He did a great job.
Statements like these, that reveal his personal philosophy on government, and reveal that, yes, he is aware of the fact that not everybody has had the same privileges as he has, are so important, and very inspiring.

7. once again he recognizes in Corzine what he has in common:
Idealism, integrity, strong moral compass.
No I don't think JK would really want to be a governor, because he loves foreign policy too much.
