CHICAGO U-S Senators Barack Obama (ber-AHK' oh-BAH'-muh) and Dick Durbin will join Governor Rod Blagojevich (bluh-GOY'-uh-vitch) and the Reverend Jesse Jackson at the 16th annual PUSH Excell Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Scholarship Breakfast today in Chicago.
The breakfast will honor four people whose work over the past year has been in the King tradition.
U-S Senator John McCain will be honored for his work on torture and the war in Iraq. Civil rights activist Johnnie Carr, U-S Representative Jesse Jackson Junior and U-S Senator John Kerry also will be recognized.
Meanwhile, about 300 students will gather at a South Side high school to paint classrooms and stairwells to honor King.
Jesse Jackson Junior also will speak at a M-L-K event at the Jewish United Fund, and Reginald Weaver -- the president of the National Education Association -- will speak at Benedictine University and the College of DuPage today.
