For
Kerry
Kennedy
Durbin

Against

Dorgan
Salazar
Biden

+ of course, Byrd, Johnson, and Ben Nelson.

2. I will be happy if they succeed to get 30 votes on that
Let's be honest: the only reason why Kerry had to lead this effort rather than one of the big names in the Judiciary Committee (except for Ted K. of course) is that they dont have the vote.

7. Yeah, Biden's 'questions' were a real trip
It was more like a Princeton Alumni pep rally. :eyes:

As for where to get the smilies, the next time you are editing a post, look just above the Subject line, and you should see a link that says 'Smilies lookup table'. Click on that, and it will give you a pop-up box with all the smilies.

19. Good to see
I really hope so, and I hope she comes out publicly and says so too. Maybe a little more pressure on her to make a statement would be in order.

I would be happy to eat my words if Hillary starts leading instead of posturing.

Hillary coming out in support of the filibuster. This, IMO, means that this is the right thing to do to show that you stand for something (we know Kerry does) and it doesn't matter whether the votes are there or not. If Clinton, who has presidential aspirations, is sticking her neck out when there's no need to, there must be something to gain. And it seems the ones who aren't (especially those voting no) just don't care that Alito is the wrong choice. Those Democrats who plan to support him have completely lost me, because Kerry made a compelling and strong argument against him, and similar arguments have been made by others from both parties, including John Dean. So what gives?

bullied by the Republicans. Don't they know the best way to handle bullies is to stand up to them. Really, they are afraid of the pro abortion tag and the church issues.

20. I wonder if there even is a solution
to this red state Dem problem. Those senators are always at risk of retaliation by their constituents or the repugs. They will always be liabilities for the rest of the Dems in the senate.
And why is it, that blue state Repugs have no problem towing the party line, and suffer no backlash, either?
How can we ever get around this problem short of splitting the country into two separate nations?

21. The problem is
They are already being bullied by the Rethugs, by virtue of the fact that they won't stand up against them. So what do they have to lose? They've already shown that theur self-respect is gone.

Change of Heart - Feinstein to Support Filibuster
Filibuster support is mounting!

From DiFi's office:

Senator Feinstein to Vote No on Cloture for the Nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today announced that she will vote no on cloture regarding the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

“Based on a very long and thoughtful analysis of the record and transcript, which I tried to indicate in my floor statement yesterday, I’ve decided that I will vote no on cloture.”

30. Salazar may be back on the fence
Check GD Alito. He is conducting a poll at all of his offices to gauge support for the filibuster. I called, too, and got through on the second try. The staffer immediately assumed I was calling in favor of the filibuster and was very friendly!

31. Dodd to Support Alito Filibuster
http://www.wfsb.com/Global/story.asp?S=4420803

Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd plans to support the filibuster effort, spokeswoman Stacie Paxton said Friday.

"He will vote against cloture," said Paxton, using a Senate term for ending a filibuster.

Dodd and the state's other Democratic senator, Sen. Joe Lieberman, have both said they will vote against Alito.

33. There is no reason why Obama shouldn't join the Davos Dems
Menendez - is he the one that took over Corzine's seat?
Dam - Corzine would have been one of the first to sign up.
Maybe he is advising his replacement to do it?

35. As I am in NJ, I've called him and Lautenberg
Neither staff was saying where their Senator is. Part of the problem may be that Alito is from NJ. (Not a good reason). Menendez's seat is up this year and he will face a primary battle. This fact could be important. I know very little about him - and will likely still know little when I will have to vote in the primary. I will vote against or for him IN THE PRIMARY based on this
