I blame the count on Reid. He should have taken up this cause
in the beginning. When it came down to it, I think it would have looked bad if Kerry had over taken Reid and rallied the Dem's. Well, that is my opinion anyway, and I am going to let Reid know how I feel. He goes full force after the small things and does a piss poor job on the issues that really matter. I am assuming he is working with the LDC on strategy.

1. I do too
He did not want to be upstaged by Kerry so he refused to support the filibuster in any meaningful way. I think he assured the Dems who voted "aye" that he understood their vote, and that the filibuster was a bad idea anyway, etc. He actively undermined Kerry IMO.

Fuck him. We need a new minority leader NOW.

2. I'm trying to think of a reason

why this turned out this way, and I can't. To vote against Alito and for cloture has nothing to do with constituents---that vote is reflected in the for or against confirmation.

The talk from liberals that a filibuster shouldn't have happened made no sense, since they are actually against Alito. The thinking here is that it will fail and we will look bad, which is the same as saying let Alito slide by and not focus any attention on ourselves. Is that really opposition or is that political opposition?

Well across the country, there was real opposition.

Once the filibuster picked up steam, the vote for cloture is inexcusable.

4. Well, the dems have just become a divided party.
Yeah there was always that fuzzy line, but now it
is a deep cut right down the middle.

The way I see it now, we have 4 major political parties

1. Neocons
2. McCains

3. the spineless
4. the intellegent, caring people.

5. They have not - They 've always been.

During last year, Reid had succeeded hiding that in the Senate on the surface (less on the rollcall). It seems that last week, the progressive decided to stop doing everything the DLC was proposing.

Sure, it is a little bit messier, but may be we will be able to have a real debate, rather than seeing Boxer, Kennedy, ... being silent on issues like what to do in Iraq. We will not win in 06 without a real agenda and for a real agenda you need a discussion on what our goals are and how to reach them. A good solution would be one where there is a compromise between them.

6. This needs to come out, it has been at the surface for awhile
especially after Dean was elected DNC chair. It is obvious that the DLC thinks Clinton's wins give them the right to dictate party course. reid hasn't done much except sit back and wait for Bush to screw up and then we pounce. In the meantime, we have not been articulating our message to the people. Frankly, wins based on the other party's mistakes and scandals are very hollow victories and they will be short lived.
